Forums - Sales - Has the sun set for sim racing titles? I do think so. :(

I believe this to a certain extent. The people I know that got GT games in the past did it because of how realistic the cars looked. Think is now all the racing games sim (GT, Forza) or no arcade (PGR, Need for Speed, Burnout) serve that same purpose. I believe sales will be more spread apart.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

We'll see when GTG5 comes out. Forza 3 on 360 was never going to hit levels like previous GT due to demographics and interest on that platform. It'll sell well enough in the end, and just like Forza 2 much of that will be due to bundling.

I do feel racing sims are less popular, but I won't be coming to any firm conclusions until I see how GT5 sells - that will be the test, not Forza 3.

Note I'm not knocking Forza 3 or 360, just being realistic about judging the genre based on previous sales on that platform.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Driving sim was never popular on 360 so Forza 3's underpeformance is expected. However, GT PSP flopping so badly is surprising since it's a Sony darling bombing on a Sony platform. GT5 will sell well but not at the level of previous GT titles.

Currently playing on PS3: God of War III

Currently playing on Xbox360: Final Fantasy XIII

Currently playing on NDS: Chrono Trigger

Gran Turismo 5 will let you see the error of you ways

What leads you to believe this? I sure hope it isn' the performance of GT PSP...

Haven't you heard? The series is rubbish now! I mean... Look at GT5P sales!

Gran Turismo 4 sold nearly 3 million units in the US. GT5 will have trouble squeaking by 1 million units. That's 2 million units less to begin with. The PAL territory and Japan will drop too, just not by the same amount as in the US.

It's certainly going to be interesting when GT5 arrives.

I predict a huge amount of flaming, comparisons with Halo and Forza, and plenty of general trolling.

I'm hoping there's some excitement and happiness mixed in with that too.

And it looks like a lot of under predicting will be going on as well. I just don't understand the idea that the series has declined, where's the evidence to that? There hasn't been a full console release yet of Gran Turismo, yet the franchise will somehow suddenly drop due to.................what?

Btw, this wasn't at you, but people who continue to claim the series is on a decline based on the first handheld release and a Prologue.

10 Reasons are as follows -

1. It's on PS3.
2. Forza is now the best racing sim!
3. PS3 exclusives just dont sell like they did on PS2!
4. GT isn't big in NA anymore!
5. GT5P didn't sell that well!
6. GT PSP flopped!
7. <- ZOMG! Confirmed!
8. Shooters are the only good selling things now!

Sounds about right, don't think i missed anything...

No, you are wrong.

Gran Turismo is nothing compared to what it was, because PS brand is rubbish these days and there are now better games on the market.

You never learn, do you CGI?

yes I am very surprised

Why is EVERYONE saying GT franchise has lost poplarity

how & when did this event happen?

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey
