Forums - Nintendo - Matt Casamassina: Nintendo is Lazy!

hey lets look on the bright side, we still have Bozon.. but who knows if he is ready to betray us like every other Nintendo Team... remember what Stone Cold Steve Austin Says on the WWF? DTA (Dont Trust Anybody)

Around the Network

One little example comes to my mind: most Wii games are bashed for not having an online mode, right? But when Nintendo is not "lazy" and release a completely awesome online mode for Mario Kart Wii, what's the reaction of the critics? Tons of praises for the effort? Awesome critics and scores?

No, not at all... if i was workin' for Nintendo, i couldn't care less about these ungrateful "hardcore" gamers and critics whose favourite game is named "Wii Bash"... look at my example: Mario Kart Wii has been enjoyed by more than 20 millions of people, simply having fun, while the game is mocked by a so-called "gaming elit"' for what? Not be a 90+ game on Metacritic...

If that's what gaming is all about these days, i'm glad to leave it to the "hardcores": they can have it all, and write any stupidity on any forum or on any web page, that will never change anything to the fun the Nintendo's games are givin' to me, or to my kids... they're playin Spirit Tracks in this room while i'm writing this, and believe me, they don't need any "opinion" about Nintendo's games: they just play, and enjoy...

Something i should do more often than care about "opinions", here or everywhere... most "hardcore" gamers active on the net think their opinions do reflect the opinions of anyone, the "silent majority"... when in fact, they form a microcosm, a very small and very narrow-minded community, totally out of touch with the vast majority of people...

Most people don't spend 5 hours a day on internet forums, plus 10 hours a day playin' videogames... most people don't buy 50 games each year, and don't want to spend $600 on a gaming machine... most people don't like to shoot everyone in an ultra-violent game, or to do a 100-hour quest in a JRPG full of clichés...

Most people just want to have fun from time to time, and when it comes to gaming, "Nintendo's lazyness" seems to be just perfect for many people: kids, women, old folks, entire families, Nintendo lovers, retro gamers, open-minded gamers, japanese game lovers, and so on and on... many "minorities" creatin' a real "majority"...

Why is it so hard to get, and why is it hard so hard to have some respect, for these games, and for these gamers? Because you don't have the same tastes?

Yeah, sure... i like jazz, funk, reggae, but people who love metal, folk or RnB know nothing about music, right? Their opinions are worthless, and their tastes are irrelevant, right?

If that's how the world turns for you, i don't want to be a part of it, that's all...

My final word (yes, it happens...): if Nintendo is "lazy", then just hope they will never stop bein' that way... cos they're already puttin' shame to 90% of the third parties "efforts", and already have a 50% marketshare on two of the most successful gaming consoles ever...

Yeah...

20 million people enjoyed New Super Mario Bros on DS. Nintendo isn't stupid, and they knew it would be a great idea to bring the New serie on the Wii, but taking advantage of the powerful processor and implement 4 players at the same time. They worked hard to create each level to balance both difficulty and multiplayer.

The proof that Nintendo isn't lazy is Metroid: Other M. Nintendo knows this serie isn't very popular, but they manage to create a game that really looks awesome. This game will be the first hyper-realistic game in cinematics. They do know what people want, and this is why they are so special. They create games for you. They are not cutting the corners, really.

They could create some new ones! Everyone (except Nintendo) knows there are plenty of people waiting for them to do so.

I do believe the industry could do better. However i think the same could be said of Nintendo directly as well.

They are expanding it. Metroid is a third person action game this time around, although not exactly a new IP. Still ketchup, catsup on that front. But those are genres that Nintendo just doesn't work with typically. I am not saying they couldn't have done better, but they really front loaded their first party releases for the Wii. There had to be a gap somewhere and that is what we are coming out of now.

Still, for an epic TPS, FPS, or third person action game you will need to look past what Nintendo makes. They just don't develop those games. Its like waiting for Konami to make the next epic fighting game. You can't fault the company for that really.

The proof that Nintendo isn't lazy is a game that they are hiring a third party (Team Ninja) to make?

They are not hiring Team Ninja to develop it! They are developing Metroid Other M too.

he must be right, no one seems to care. i think nintendo is doing a great job as far as im concerned.

edit:got ninjad

nintendo is doing a good job with their 1st party software

but thats it, thrid party is no good, the concole well not really made for other functionarlty (to be fair) is lacking

in my mind and from my understanding people only buy nintendo for nintendo products, thats why i would buy a wii. the third party, online and other stupid gimmicks for wii are crap. but its first party software is for the most part golden...with the exception of SSBBrawl...the game is a utter dissapointment and crap.

I've been playing games since the Atari 2600. I'm neither hardcore nor casual...I'm OLD SCHOOL. I guess many would find it surprising that I love the Wii more than any other console that's ever been released (with SuperNES coming a close 2nd).

From first party through third party, they're all good to me. Just this year for me it has been Punch Out!!, Madworld, NSMBWii, Muramasa, Metroid Prime Trilogy, The Conduit, Silent Hill:SM, plus the VC and Wiiware. I still give ample time to all the other games from past years too (Mario Galaxy, Brawl, No More Heroes, Okami, Twilight Princess). I don't think I would even have any more time for more games (although I better since Other M, Desperate Struggle, Red Steel 2, Galaxy 2, and Zelda Wii are all on the way).

I actually sold my 360 because I didn't have the time and honestly couldn't find that much that appealed to me outside of Halo3 and Netflix. But it's a case of "to each his own". I'm not sure why people get so argumentative about things that have no affect on them. I got rid of my 360 because I didn't use it. However, I don't feel the need to go bash it to everyone that enjoys it. I'm not offended that it has some sort of appeal to others. I don't loiter around Xbox forums to bash it at every opportunity that arises. This war of "casual" and "hardcore" sounds like hate speech most of the time... like it's back during the days when segregation was being challenged. Intolerance has no place where there is no harm.

I dunno know it's so hard to accept that some people prefer some things that are different than others. It's not a contest. Everybody acts like they are recruiting for some kind of war. "Either you're with us, or AGAINST us!". It's crazy.

wait people still read IGN?

Nintendo didn't work with fighters but Brawl was a great success(were it as clean as VF i might just say the best in the genre).  They don't work with FP games but people speak highly of metroid prime series.  They find success even with things they aren't the most familiar.  I believe I can fault companies for not trying new things they haven't done before when they have a nice and successful history of it.  Although i suppose it's just me thinking the new stuff isn't terribly interesting.  NVM.

he may be something of a moron, but he has a point... NSMB could have been much more detailed... it's not like it would hurt them to create a real online service as well
