Forums - Nintendo - I can live without the Zelda Overworld Theme Now

Hey, not my fault I haven't played the 2D ones yet D: I played all the 3D console ones at least.

I see what you mean and I can hear it somewhat in TP and can hear it in MM but not so much Ocarina and TWW. But either way that theme hasn't been really prominent since MM in 2000 so I don't think people really care much at this point. For me, if it sounds good, that's all that matters.

Go back to your J-pop, son.

This thread is for grown-ups.

EDIT: Also the Ocarina of Time doesn't have the "Zelda theme" at all.  Rather depressing.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Really now, ALttP, Majora's Mask, and TMC's overworld themes were straight-up arrangements of the Zelda Overworld Theme. All the other's had elements that were derived directly from it, both harmonic or melodic, and all incorporated a variation of the opening fanfare as a main motif.

As for this theme... I can't say I like it more than OoT's overworld theme - that was truly impressive for it's time, unlike this - but yes, I won't miss the traditional overworld theme either. This one has only tenuous connections to the original theme, but that doesn't mean it isn't a good song in it's own right.

I loved this new theme

I haven't played Spirit Tracks yet, but that theme sounds great. I mean, we've all heard it plenty already thanks to the trailers...

To be honest, I really don't like the same old songs being used as a main theme. In Link to the Past, the Dark World theme was the superior overworld theme. Many of NSMB Wii's overworld themes bother me, as they're simply taken from the DS (worse, the main one isn't even as good as the DS version).

Remember SMB3, or Super Mario World? The soundtracks were unique and amazing, which helps give the games their own identity. It would've sucked if they just used remixes of the original themes. Zelda is the same. That's one of the reasons Ocarina is more memorable than the others - the soundtrack is so awesome, that it gets used in future games Zeldas (though I'd prefer that didn't actually happen).
edit: Made it clear I wasn't referring to SSB, which is all about the nostalgia / fanservice, so it's all good!

I hope Zelda Wii gets its own overworld theme!

Soriku, you're dead wrong bro. I care very much, and a ton of other Zelda fans do too. You need to play the 2D Zeldas, they are better than anything you've ever played, count on it.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

I love the sound of that..... it's.... beautiful. :'(

I officially deduct 1000 points from Soriku's gamer credibility card.

Anyways I can live without the main theme, but that doesn't mean I want to. I prefer it to this theme from Spirit Tracks, but the ST theme is superior to OoT's overworld but behind WW and TP's.

Some of the handheld Zeldas have great music but always get overlooked.

Tag - "No trolling on my watch!"

I was just talking with my wife about the Brawl soundtrack, actually.

We have come to the joint conclusion that the only way to improve on it would be to incorporate new and more music. Like this theme!

We also decided that it would be pretty great to fight on top of the Spirit Train in the next Smash Bros.

No offense to Soriku but I don't think he's at a point where he would appreciate the original very much

Link to the Past would be about as intense as he needs to handle

How dare you. I love me some Zelda music.

And besides, J rock > j pop.

You don't deserve to say you "love me some Zelda music" without playing a Link to the Past or Link's Awakening.
