Wow music is in a sad state right now. The whole medium just seemed to go way downhill after the death of Kurt Cobain.

What a disappointment.

Agreed, was that 1995? Because Tupac and Biggie died within about 6 months of that time too if I remember right, and they were taking hip-hop in a much better direction, and that went straight to the crapper as well. There's still good stuff out there, but the difference is back then you could turn on a major-market radio station and something good might be on. Now you've gotta really search it out.

Is it bad that I've only heard of Jason Mraz and Kayne West out of everyone in that top 10?

Is this based on sales as well?

Never heard of Lil Wayne?  Sadly it's hard to find a song that he's NOT featured in.  :-/

Bah, I skipped over Lil Wayne. I've only heard of him though due to Girl Talk.

Yeah, about then. And you're right about Tupac and Biggie, their lyrics actually had some sort of meaning. The worst part was that it was in the late 90s/early 00s when we started to see the likes of the Backstreet Boys, N'Sync, and Britney Spears.

God, I remember it. It was bad.

Edit: After further study, Kurt died in 1994, Tupac in 1996, and Biggie in '97. And after that was when the wave of crap started.

Thank God that digital distribution and satellite radio are bringing back independent musicians who don't suck. They can make money without indenturing themselves to a record label. There is tons of great music out there, you just have to go find it.

I haven't been this excited about the music scene since Grunge reached its saturation in '93 or so.

Please Watch/Share this video so it gets shown in Hollywood.

Kanye hasn't even released anything this year.... and if this is based on sales then why isnt Jay Z on the list?

I told ya 1992 was the best year ever.

1992: Kurt Cobain was in his prime, Biggie just started rapping (been in this sh*t since 92' look at all the bull**is I've been through), and Tupac was working on another album.

1994 was the best year as Illmatic was released
