Forums - Nintendo - Super Mario Galaxy bombs in Japan - only sells 130,000 on day 1

@ Wojitas

Ratchet and Clank sold underneath 100k because it was a limited release, we will see how it does on it's first full week of release, and also, R&C is not nearly as big as Mario, so there.

And many games on their first week have sold over 100k in Japan, jsut eight weeks ago it was CC:FFVII and Pokemon Mystery dungeon, are YOU living under a rock?

That's seriously disappointing first day sales. I'll reserve judgment about "bombing" until a later date.

But, I'll be honest, some people are being fanboys/fangirls(fanfolks?) in this thread.

Look, while it's not like I am disagreeing that Galaxy's sale is underwhelming, but both of your examples listed are for portable games with a much larger inst... I mean base than the console ones, it's not a valid comparison.

I am a PC gamer, and also have a NDS now, but without access to a Nintendo Wii until End of 2007.

Currently playing: Super Smash Brothers Brawl(Wii), Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer(DS), Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime (DS), WiiFit(Wii)

Games Recently Beaten: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King (Normal; Very Hard after the next DLCs become available)

1 word: RTFA

Go discuss it civilly in the other thread, we don't need multiple threads to discuss this.

You guys are crazy, if any other game only sold 130k on the first day, you would say that the game hasn't done very well. But since it's Mario and it did that much (or little) on the first day, it is fine. I distinctly remember when CC: FFVII didn't do that great First day vs. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, people were talking about how bad it did vs. the expectations and now people in this thread are saying this source is unbelievable... I just can't believe that now that this game didn't do a million units or 750 or 500 thousand in the first day, the source is unbelievable. And now people are saying that it will still sell a million in the first week. The first day sales are generally the best of the week, they don't rise. And whoever said that people didn't buy it because they pre-ordered it needs to QFT... That was my rant, but in all honesty, I do believe the game will sell well but the first day sales are not that great, I am just surprised that a game with this much hype did not get that great of a first day sale.

Um, what in the hell are you talking about, if it was any other game besides Galaxy, noone would even remotely consider this a bomb, in fact, people would be saying how much of a big success it is

EDIT: certainly will DKII

If this game fails to reach Mario Party 8 numbers in its first week (282k in four days, somewhere around 300 in 7 days) this will be disappointing. Not really a bomb, but disappointing.

I'll take the case!!!

First: I don't see this thread as flaimbaiting (even if it would be).

Second: I think so too it bombed, when compared to expectations considering the first day sales.
First day sales have meaning in Japan, since preorders are high. This "bombing" could be a cause from bad launch day, so i would expect SMG triple it's day one sale on saturday. Maybe it does that, maybe doesn't. If it doesn't, i'm very interested in, that what's wrong with Japanese.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

@Tabsina I should rephrase what I said. If any other game sold 130K the first week, people would not be acting delusional and say that the game can still move between 600k-750k for the first week, GENERALLY, the sales for the week are 2-2.5x that of the first day sales (somewhere around there) which would put SMG at MAX 325k for the first week. It's just weird how that this game will magically sell between four and six times the first day sales when the most amount of people who buy a game buy it on the first day. I don't recall recently of games that had first days of 130k going on to sell 600-750k during the first week (though I may be wrong). Also, there are pics of the launch on a number of websites of the game sitting on shelves and no one buying it... I'm just sayin.

Okay, I just have to object here people. I see posters on this forum rag on PS3 titles not living up to expectations all the time. While this thread may be a bit of flamebait and the numbers are unconfirmed, PS4 is totally justified to post it. I'm a Wii owner and have high expectations for it but the fact is:

Super Mario Galaxy is underperforming in Japan. Period. Deal with it. Move on. Let the Sony/360 fanboys have their day of gloating. Hey after the year they've had Sony fanboys deserve a chance to gloat.

Let's see what the actual numbers are and the total for the week, perhaps they'll end up eating some crow after, but until then. A disappointing 130k it is.

takkxyz, you really have to play the bonus levels of portal, they are great....if you don't have a problem with motion sickness that is
The time trials will have you thinking "oh my...how could i have been so blind"

OT
First day sales of a big game tend to be pretty misleading they rarely affect the final sales of the a game, lets at least wait for the first week sales before claiming that it "bombed".

btw what was the install based of the DS when NSMB launched?

"..just keep on trying 'till you run out of cake"
