c0rd: I... don't disagree. If nothing else, other games (especially those by Fumito Ueda) have shown that games can have involving storylines and strong characters without bloated scripts. Indeed, I would not oppose a story with a kind of dynamic, character-driven narrative - much like the new Prince of Persia. I imagine Link as a lone traveler, associating only with a few characters, fighting a personal fight - that is, something like a mix of MM and the original Zelda, but with a more focused main plot and more accessible, dynamic character interactions. The games have already experimented with this idea for a while now - it's just a matter of taking it all the way, cutting the fat while they're at it.
Oh, and did you play FSA?
noname: Good point, I pondered that as well. However I think Aonuma meant merely that he wanted to create a living, believable world that the player could delve into and explore. In his mind the joy that is "Zelda" comes primarily from the experience of playing the games. That is fun. In other words, I agree in principle, but I also think that what makes a Mario game "fun" is not necessarily the same thing that makes a Zelda game "fun".
