ya, i'm surprised how easily i'm pwning the earlier levels now with 5 stars.

WARNING!!!!!! POSSIBLE SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!

i'm currently trying to sqeeze out a few more stars to get past that douche 220 star gnome. other than about 4 levels i haven't found/beaten yet, no level is under 4 stars, and many are 5 stars. i can't find level 45 though (it feels like i would already have access to it, but i don't know where to look.) the last few levels are expecially punishing, and i don't know how i'll ever manage beating them, much less 5 staring them, and i'm playing on easy by the way.

as it stands now, this will probably stand as my 3rd most favorite wiiware game (behind world of goo and ffcc:my life as a king, both very early releases ironically). amazing game shams, and i can't wait for the next one :D.

come try out the computer game i've been working on for my high school senior project, titled sling ball. http://vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=76669&page=1

you can view a few screenshots from the game in my photo album here; http://www.vgchartz.com/photos/album.php?album=2312

Spoiler:

There is one hidden level in the 'cave'... the others are around the swamp region. Find them, there are a couple of specials :)

Sounds like you are pretty close...

Today, I'm going to talk briefly about the story & transformations.

...

When we were first mucking around with prototypes, I had a pretty distinct idea for the game in my head. The world would start as a dirty, ruined, polluted world - and by Follie doing her flower growing thing, the world would transform into a cleaner version.

Not that unlike how Okami works - although I didn't realise it at the time. Now when I think back, Okami was a definite influence on me for Flowerworks - I had recently played and finished it (for the first time) on the Wii... and I loved it to death.

Anyway - this polluted world idea, didn't work out too well. Flowerworks was always meant to be a game that appealed to kids/everyone - and we wanted the game to be bright and colourful (even at the start). We tinkered with some polluted world tile-sets - but either didn't have the skill, or just couldn't make it look good.

So - the idea transformed. Since Follie was a cartoon looking character, yet still an 'alien' - I came up with the idea of transforming what *our* world would look like... into what *her* world would look like.

It turned out that it worked pretty well, and also made the game less serious. We could now laugh at Follie's reaction - she doesn't understand our world (and we don't understand hers).

Anyway, I thought it was interesting how it came about.

Anymore reviews come in for this game yet?

Not that I know of... hoping we get a decent IGN, GameSpot, VGChartz and some other reviews in the coming weeks.

We'll be putting out some extra marketing/videos in the coming weeks - and then hope word of mouth spreads from people who like the game.

i personally think a gameplay video is better advertizing than a trailer. in a gameplay video, all of these people on the internet saying "wft is this!?!?) can see one level played through, and see how the gameplay actually works. i liked those 3 or so videos of the pc versions put on youtube of a level being played through.

just my 2 cents.

I agree completely. There have been a lot of 'fluffy' trailers around recently that don't show much gameplay at all.

We have a editorial video taking players through the gameplay basics - we'll release it early next week, and hopefully it will help with anyone that finds the gameplay confusing.

Problem with some of those level videos, is there can be a lot going on - and until someone has played the game they have no idea what is going on at all.

Why Flowerworks Wii >> Flowerworks PC

For todays rant, I'm going to talk about why Flowerworks is better on the Wii than on the PC (this is comparing the PC to the Wii version):

There are two main reasons:

1/ Wiimote is better than a mouse:

This doesn't hold true for all games - but the first thing we noticed with Flowerworks on the Wii, is how good it felt. Moving Follie around the screen (you basically point to where she should go, and she moves there) feels a LOT better than moving her around with a mouse. And even further, the Wii version feels more accurate - probably because you are pointing to a location directly.

2/ Extra polish/features:

When you play a game on a console (compared to a PC), all the little glitches become very apparent and very annoying. We made a significant number of improvements to the Wii version of Flowerworks, and the result is a much improved game.

In fact - the only area that the PC version is superior to the Wii version - is really the audio. To reduce space (we really wanted to get the Wii version under 16MB), both the music tracks and sound effects are lower quality than the PC version. They still sound great though, and IMO our composer did a great job with them.

Graphically - both skews are identical. The Wii has slightly lower texture sizes, but this is more to match the lower output resolution (PC obviously runs at a higher resolution than 480p). The Wii has a better (and true) widescreen implementation though.

Some of differences between the two versions include:

  • physics based bubble-popping (feels a lot better, good call Carl :>)
  • optimised HUD (less buttons cluttering the screen)
  • new Follie diary (tracks your adventure)
  • zoom feature on the overworld map
  • much cooler star meter, for the end of levels
  • preset character names (always hate entering a name on consoles)
  • better startup flow (less screens)
  • more control shortcuts
  • 'waggle' gnome pacify mini-game
  • better arcade mode

Anyway - I think its rare for a Wii game to actually end up better than a PC skew, so it was worth a mention :)
