Forums - Nintendo - Wii vs. GCN first party games

In this thread, we shall compare Wii and GCN first party games.  Let's see now...

SMG, SMG2, NSMBWii >>> Super Mario Sunshine

Mario Kart Wii > Mario Kart Double Dash

Metroid Prime Trilogy, Metroid Other M >>> Metroid Prime 1/2

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn > Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance

NPC! Pikmin 1, NPC! Pikmin 2, Pikmin 3 >>> Pikmin 1/2

Brawl > Melee

Twilight Princess Wii > Twilight Princess GCN

Super Paper Mario < Thousand Year Door

Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, Mario Party 8, Wii Play >>> however many Mario Parties there were for GCN

Animal Crossing: City Folk > Animal Crossing

Batallion Wars II > Batallion Wars

You are comparing a 2D sidescroller to a 3D platformer. Unfair comparison.

Mario Kart Wii doesn't have co-op campaign. Even Mario Kart 64 had it. Fail.

Fire Emblem is a matter of preference. I actually beat PoR. I couldn't get into Radiant Dawn at all because it was too hard.

Pikmin 3 doesn't exist.

Brawl makes many improvements over Melee. Gimping great characters is not one of them.

Twilight Princess is the same game on both consoles. It's just preferences with controls. You want to control the camera? Play the GCN version. You want more "immersive" controls? Play the Wii version. The GCN version is for Zelda purists though. Link is a lefty.

Wii Play is a crap "game".

There were 4 Mario Party games: Mario Party 4, 5, 6, and 7. Even MP5 was better than Wii Play.

We can all agree that Animal Crossing is best on the DS.

Battalion Wars wasn't a very good game to begin with. It wasn't hard to improve it.

Yes, I am a GameCube fanboy. Bite me.

If you didn't like a Fire Emblem game because it is too hard then maybe you don't like the genre?  I beat Fire Emblem GCN on hard and thought it could have been harder.  That being said, I would get that archer kid to like lvl 17 because I found a funny exploit on the first mission you play with the Laguz.

Animal Crossing may have been 'technically' on the DS, but there were still little to entice a player of the first Animal Crossing the switch over.  Personally I liked the top down view and playing on a TV better.  The online added very little to the experience, less than what you could get with a friend coming over to your house.

You didn't like Battalion Wars?  Once again, don't condemn a game just because you don't like the subgenre.  It's not like Oblivion, where the game is horrible because it sucks the soul right out of you.  The game tricks you into spending the time creating a character and getting through the first dungeon and few hours of gameplay making you think it will be fun if you play it a certain way to only ruin the entire thing by its design that ruins immersion.

Nintendo's efforts on the Wii have been laughable since the 1st quarter of 2008. 2009 was the poorest year ever, and NoA made things worse by not releasing most of the interesting games that came out elsewhere after 2007 ended. Either them or NCL, but it's someone at Nintendo who is to blame for it. NPC games were terrible excuses for the lack of original content IMO. 2010 better be better. I have a feeling it will, but I would be very sad if it doesn't, it's been years since we have been hyped about anything Nintendo has to offer.

You're not allowed to say these types of things. Just see my earlier exchange to see why.

I loved Fire Emblem 7, 8, and 9. :P

I am an RTS fan. Battalion Wars wasn't a well executed game. Your AI controlled squadmates were freaking mental patients. It's like they didn't even go to boot camp they were so stupid. It could have been a lot better.

And don't troll Oblivion.

Your right, Battalion Wars did have its flaws.  Its one of those games I enjoyed because it was different and don't want to play again.

I was kinda joking about Oblivion.  Though I do hate that game.  I kept doing the 'stop playing it because something stupid ruins the immersion and pisses me off' followed by me playing it again thinking it will be fun if I play it a certain way with a certain class.  I could have used that time to play better games.  Does hating a game after playing it a long time and expressing that opinion mean i'm trolling?  This summarizes my feelings for the game very accurately:

i agree with the OP. Mostly wii versions have been improvement. MKW is the most succesful MK ever, followed by the MK 64 and MK GC(for obvious reasons) was the least succesful of them all(seriously, not online -buddying mechanics?).At least in terms of sales, MKGC saw the worse reception in comparison.
And honestly things are getting better for next year .When all its say and done at the end, there wont be any doubt.
Even third party wise. Although i admit some companies should step up the plate.Like EA.
