Forums - Nintendo - If the Wii was in HD.

they would have foolishly thrown millions/ billions down the drain, and the industry would still be trying to kill them off.

It would not have MGS4 and Uncharted, those are exclusives to PS3, but the other ones are for every console. Third party companies ARE giving them support, you see games like RockBand/Guitar Hero, Call of Duty 4 Reflex, ea/2k sports titles, need for speed. You notice, they are TRYING but it's a bitch to downgrade games so a lot don't even bother.  Some see it as an investment if it doesn't take too long to do it.

I can see it not doing as well if it was HD, because the console would cost more. That's why it is selling so easily without it. $$$$$$$$

And the only reason why Wii games don't look that great on HD tvs is because the edges on the 3d models are pixelated. But when I mean HD I mean it being a more powerful console to have the same third party games from the other consoles without them downgrading the graphics. It does mainly mean for the resolution, but to have higher resolution you need a more powerful system.

@bardicverse
I'm not trollin lol. You know it's true, Twilight Princess looks just as good on the gamecube as the Wii version. They only made the graphics a tiny bit better, adding some new effects. But yeah... Brawl looks AMAZING!!! So much detail, but they had to use dual layered disks. That's about it though.

If Wii were in HD, it would have sold less than the GCN.

Wii sells because it's different, and, for better or worse, not being in HD guarantees different support than the HD twins.

Devs didn't support the GCN when it was between the PS2 and Xbox in terms of power, so why would they have supported an HD Wii?

Exactly.  The last 2 gens, Nintendo focused on graphics and trying to coax support from third parties.  Instead, third parties left in droves to other systems as if they were conciously trying to alienate themselves from Nintendo, even when Nintendo built systems focused on graphics.

In other words, the Wii was built on Nintendo's ongoing understanding that better graphics and more money doesn't gain support.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

Well then it wouldn't have sold so well if it was in HD. It would have sold just like the other consoles. The Wii's price point is its biggest advantage.

Nintendo still doomed?

I disagree.. nintendo have made billions of dollars off the wii, to say they couldnt afford a lil cut in profits( thanx in part to mammoth DS sales). All they really had to do was throw in a low grade GPU,- hell even a Geforce FX would have sufficed! The point here is higher res- not the same Fillrate or pipelines as the xenos..since ninty games hardly ever push the graphics frontier(barring F-zeroGX, but that was a SEGA game) on their platforms..

Anyone whose tried the dolphin emulator can testament to the fact that games look much much better on the higher res. I would give the Wii more playtime if it were easier to look at.. It is fun(sometimes), but its freaking ugly...and ninty is freaking greedy..

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

5 THINGS I'd like to see before i knock out:

a. a AAA 3D sonic title

b. a nintendo developed game that has a "M rating"

c. redesgined PS controller

d. SEGA back in the console business

e. M$ out of the OS business

It would have cost a lot more and it would have sold a lot less,
