Forums - Sales - Cabela's Big Game Hunt on Wii, this years Carnival Games?

I wasn't aware of this game at all, and I'm sure most of you weren't either. It hasn't even got enough reviews on metacritic for a score, and the three it has are middling. Yet, after it's very quite release, it's been growing in sales, and black Friday it sold over 90k (around 5 times it's launch week).

So, are we looking at this years Carnival Games, even the "Blue Ocean FPS" we've been talking about?

Here are some chartz for thought:

I was shocked when I saw this one this weeks charts. That was a mighty jump.

My roommate actually has this game. I tried it and it isn't bad actually. The graphics are quite detailed - the game has a competent engine - though the framerate is shit.

Can't get down with hunting animals for sport though...

It's not in Carnival Games' league until certain people start bitching about it every waking moment on this forum. Until then it might be more like Big Beach Sports - people won't start whining until they realize how it's really selling.

I think I may need to get this game, just for the curiosity of what is causing it's success (it's doing far far better than The Conduit did). It probably won't be released outside of the US though, will it?

It comes with a plastic rifle that your Wii Remote fits into. People just want the cool looking gun. The game is secondary.

It has more in common with Nerf n Strike, because it has the added peripheral. The Nerf game sold like hotcakes during the holidays, this game might do the same.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

I'm thinking this as well. It seems that the best game to compare this to is Nerf N-Strike that came out late last year and sold more than anyone thought it would.

There's also a new fishing game with a rod.  I forget what it's called.  I wouldn't be surprised to hear if this was selling well also.

Oh... and there's the long awaited sequel to Chicken Shoot that's named Chicken Blaster that comes with a plastic pistol.  :p

Hunting games actually do pretty well in the arcades nowadays, and they're popular sellers on the PC. I'm not too surprised at this.

It's got a competent marketing campaign with the Wii version being the dominant one being advertised. This will sell well to "dads" in particular. Any of the Cabela's games on Wii could have been this huge, but this is the first time Activision has put the marketing campaign behind it to support it.

Wii games are no different from PS360 games. They need a marketing campaign to succeed just like any other title. Kudos to Activision for providing it.
