They stopped breaking them down by region back in March of '07.  Are you sure about that number for America alone?  The PS2 was only at 69.9 million in the same time frame (6 quarters).

Sorry, I should've made it clear but that 60m figure is worldwide.  Japan was 10m of it, and given GameCube's pitiful EU performance, I'd say a good 40m of it was America alone.  GC was actually pretty strong here out the gates, it just fizzled after 3 years.

Yes, the PS3 is still breaking records, including the one for losing the most money. This makes the PS3 a failure and considering that it is also the follow up to the best selling home console, the PS2, it is indeed the biggest blunder in the industry.

You are sticking to that illusion that the PS3 is doing great while in reality the console is still draining all the profits that the PS1, PS2 and PSP made in their entire lifetimes. Going by your logic, the first Xbox must have been a phenomenal success too.

Of course it was brought up because I said the PS3 has done things no other losing console has done. It's crazy how the simplest things can be blown so far out of proportion. The same thing happened to Zucas in the "WW Black Friday Thread".

Point is, the PS3 has done some pretty interesting things considering Sony nearly killed the system and the brand as a whole. It's good to see a bit of a turn around was all I was getting at.

I think you need to read the post he responded to. "the biggest blunder in the industry." I'm sure there are more.. in fact... i'd put the virtual boy in front of it. now leave the thread or gawk at the VC numbers.

The PS3 is biggest fall from grace a market leader has ever seen since Atari crashed the market it created. The PS3 is the console that lost the most money in video game history. The PS3 is the console to miss its original projections of success by the biggest margin (both by analysts and Sony themselves).

This isn't enough to call it the "biggest blunder in the industry"?

And I'd think a system that sold under a million is a bigger blunder http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_Boy or maybe... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox a console that lost billions and couldnt even last 5 years. maybe http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360 the console with the highest failure rate EVER. or maybe http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dreamcast single handidly took the company out of the HW business and almost the entire indusrty... or maybe your example... a console that almost destroyed the industry... what form of measurment do we use to compare? what makes these any less of a blunder? nothing except you being a troll.

PS3's lost more money than any other console. Ever. That's a perfectly acceptable metric for "biggest blunder" imo.
