They stopped breaking them down by region back in March of '07.  Are you sure about that number for America alone?  The PS2 was only at 69.9 million in the same time frame (6 quarters).

Sorry, I should've made it clear but that 60m figure is worldwide.  Japan was 10m of it, and given GameCube's pitiful EU performance, I'd say a good 40m of it was America alone.  GC was actually pretty strong here out the gates, it just fizzled after 3 years.
