Forums - Nintendo - Judge rules Nintendo! ILLEGALLY protects systems', should be like WINDOWS!!

My games collection hasn't been updated yet, but I own well over 300 retail titles.

I have been doing my part for the industry for a very long time now.

Homebrew shouldn't be illegal unless it's using copyrighted material.

Euphoria, unless you paid for the license to play DVDs on your Wii, the functionality is technically illegal

So what's the real solution? Will Nintendo have to fight over this and gain full control of the platform, or is there a way to ensure homebrew uses no copyrighted material?

I'd imagine there would need to be some kind of regulation or control, even if it was quite loose.

Homebrew gave me MP3s on my DS along with video.

Homebrew gave me DVD capabilities on my Wii.

Homebrew gave me the ability to have a FFVI channel on my Wii.

Homebrew gave me a way to play my PSP games while listening to music on my PSP.

Yarr, matey.  Ye be doin' us proud.

None of that is pirating.

It is all 100% legal in fact. The programs are legal and the flash cart is legal.

Very similar to a mod chip. The chip is legal but the firmware later installed onto the chip may not.

Some mod chips in fact only come with firmware that allows only for homebrew use and does not enable the use of copied games.

In the PS2 era the Crystal Chip was one such chip.

Also, as for the PSP, homebrew scene supporters such as myself had internet radio on the PSP long before SONY implemented it in a firmware update.

Edit - In fact, my old PS2 is equipped with a Crystal Chip. My Crystal Chip had homebrew only firmware installed onto it.

When I sent my PS2 (with modchip and custom flip top case Phat model) for repairs SONY sent my PS2 back to me with the chip.

Your opinion is tainted since we all know you pirate games regularly. It's hard to trust the stance you'd take when we know you're really trying to defend the continuation of the piracy behind the three platforms anyways.

Really? Eh, oh well.

I use it to copy my daughter's Baby Einstein DVDs onto my Wii HDD s I can quickly switch between them.

Yeah? What makes you so sure that I do this regularly? A hunch? Quite a bold claim you've made.

Have I pirated before? Yes I have.

Have I purchased games I have pirated? Yes I have.

Nowadays I no longer download any games because I have a 2 out at a time Gamefly account which gives access to DS, PSP, 360, PS3, Wii, PS2 games.

Would you like some photos of my boxes upon boxes of purchased retail games? I'll do so if you wish.

I'm not as bad as you think I am.

As someone who's pro-consumer, I came in thinking this was a great thing. Having read the excerpt though, I'm a bit alarmed at the breadth it took...

Piracy win!? O_O!!!! I must admit I used to have a flash card for my DS, but it fell in the toliet and was flushed away, fate loves to taunt me!!!

@Onyxmeth

By the way, you're claim of me trying to protect piracy is wrong. I am all for the protection of the homebrew scene. A scene that gets a lot more flak than it deserves.
