Tales of Symphonia is my second favourite JRPG after Secret of Mana.

Expect awesomeness and what every decent JRPG should have: Multiplayer fun!

Secret of Mana had great multiplayer.

Tales of Symphonia has a crippled multiplayer by virtue of the fact that the battle camera doesn't care about anyone but 1st player which leads to a lot of situations where other players can't see themselves on screen or react to enemy attacks or run around with any clue where they're going.

A crippled battlesystem is more fun than no battle system. And I had tons of fun with it^^

Secret of Mana beats it by far though. But then again, What JRPG is not beaten by Secret of Mana? :)

I could answer that, but Secret of Mana was a fantastic game from the music to the visuals to the gameplay.  It's best to leave it at that.

I’m amazed someone felt so strongly about ToS they created a thread just to point out the flaws they felt existed…

At the time, Tales of Symphonia was being discussed in a lot of threads.  It was basically a case of it being easier to put all my feelings into a single thread instead of repeating myself again and again.

I posted a link to that old thread above for Mr. Khan's sake. It's better he go into the game with reasonable expectations.  When people like you and Soriku build peoples' hopes, it's only natural that it becomes too difficult for the game to live up to them.  Since I'm not clinging to the game like some love-struck fangirl, I can actually give commentary on its flaws and hopefully not set Mr. Khan up to be disappointed.

Lloyd was the most boring Tales RPG character I have ever played.
He has all the common artes from Tales games. Its like playing a textbook.

His personality kinda sucks too.

... and he still places on 2nd or 3rd place if I had to rank the characters. Yea, I didn't like the ToS cast. Zelos was good, Lloyd and Colette are slighty above average/average, all the others were meh and Genis sucked.

And this is where I stop. I don't want to go on with my disliking of ToS. But, the story got interested halfway through the game.

Sorry Majin and Soriku.

I THOUGHT WE COULD TRUST EACHOTHER ;_;

Anyway, you didn't hate Colette, so I forgive you.

Pretty much every character from Tales of Symphonia were bland and boring.

Seriously? Am I reading these words?

You make it sounds like we're criminals. "You said the game was enjoyable!" Well it was for me. I didn't say "hey me and Soriku like it therefore so will you!" We don't believe our opinions are absolute unlike *cough* someone. Really all I said was give it a go and see if you like it. I didn't say "this is the best game ever, you will love it!" Of course I do apologise to Khan if his hopes were built too high by my comments, feel free to slap on the shackles - geese.

It was most due to completely unjustified praise that the title received despite the formula being improved in the new entries in the series. Words of Wisdom did a good job representing those who share the same feelings.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Dont listen to Soriku, the gameplay is pretty bad in ToS in another hand ToS2 has a far better gameplay ans is simply more fun.

The gameplay is only "bad" in ToS if you've played other Tales before it. I played ToS before I touched Abyss and Vesperia and I had no problems at all with the gameplay. On the contrary, I was happy to see a RPG with some proper gameplay for once.

I'm sorry it still seems a bit of a waste of time to me. There are plenty of games I don't like yet others do, but I didn't feel the need to create an essay on how bad a game is. And I certainly wouldn't bash other users just for believing a game is good. I don't mind WoW (or others) having a negative opinion on ToS, but is there really a need to go to such extreme? I don't think so.

God, Words of Wisdom, do you actually enjoy anything you play? you're thinking way too much while playing a game instead of enjoying it! sure, Lloyd is dumb, but that only brought me lulz. That was the purpose the developers had with him. You focus on the flaws so much and see none of the positives, of which there's a lot.

But yeah, you're right on one thing. Colette is the worst female character in a game and all the bullshit she puts you through is just not worth it. That's just unavoidable. She sucks so bad.

As for myself, I loved ToS. Great funny skits, very very fun battles, great graphics (even by todays Wii standards), very quick loading times, cooking contrary to what you think is fun and useful, ex-spheres have lots of uses if you combine them well...

I recommend this game to anyone who's into JRPG's.

How dare you speak ill of the epic cuteness that is Colette ;_;

Though, everyone seems to hate her. THAT DOESN'T MEAN I'LL FORGIVE YOU! BASTARDS! ALL OF YOU!

I loved colette a lot! i thought she was adorable. her "dumbness" was cute too. lloyd was dumb too but i liked that about him, it gave a kind of innocence. most of the chracters were cool and well voiced by their english vocalists, i absolutely love the ToS characters :D

the game has flaws like evey other game in existance, but i thinks it's totally worth playing and very enjoyable, i would recomend it :)

Thank god someone has good taste! I love the characters of Symphonia as well. Sure, they aren't perfect, but that's what makes them so great.

... and Colette most notably <3
