Dawn of the New World is a great game.

Yes for old fashioned JRPG players it is a bit odd that the "hero" is a shy man and not that epic guy. But the game is truly fantastic and has some story twists.

Didn't think I could actually agree with that after playing about an hour. I got so frustrated and irritated at the game in the beginning I asked my sister why in God's name I bought it. Thankfully it go better and now I have a hard time putting the controller down.

The game has flaws though(Like most games, duh). Emil can be really annoying and I hate not being able to level up characters from the first Symphonia. I want to use my favourites from Tales of Symphonia such as Sheena and Zelos, but sometimes they are at such a low level they just don't stand a chance and I have to switch them out. Monsters can be fun sometimes, but...they lack a personality.

You're lucky your roomy bought such a great game. ToS is a really great game and i enjoyed it VERY much. i noticed the flaws it had, like the camera problem in battle but to be honest, my little bro usually didn't mind, he'd either attack the same enemy as me or play as genis and cast spells from afar.

believe me when i say that the story alone is absolutely worth it, it has everything you could want, lol, magic, angels, love, friendship, betrayal, surprises and legends... makes for a deep and enjoyable story that i absolutely loved. the characters were very lovable, when i heard of ToS2 i was so happy :D

and @ everyone who thinks Emil was too whiney, don't you think that the developers made him that way to CONTRAST the badass attitude of his "other self". they are pretty opposite i think... if regular emil was strong and confident, then there wouldn't be much point to his badass other self.

I'm also one of those that think ToS: DotNW is better than ToS.

Tales of Symphonia is my second favourite JRPG after Secret of Mana.

Expect awesomeness and what every decent JRPG should have: Multiplayer fun!

Secret of Mana had great multiplayer.

Tales of Symphonia has a crippled multiplayer by virtue of the fact that the battle camera doesn't care about anyone but 1st player which leads to a lot of situations where other players can't see themselves on screen or react to enemy attacks or run around with any clue where they're going.

A crippled battlesystem is more fun than no battle system. And I had tons of fun with it^^

Secret of Mana beats it by far though. But then again, What JRPG is not beaten by Secret of Mana? :)

I LOVE ICELAND!

I’m amazed someone felt so strongly about ToS they created a thread just to point out the flaws they felt existed…

Personally I thought ToS was brilliant. On the first play through I was very close to giving up after the second dungeon just because the whole game seemed typically generic - but that holiday was particularly empty so I carried on. After a certain point the game becomes much more interesting, I ended up completing it something close to 3 or 4 times within the space of a few months. You should at least stick with the title a bit before letting someone else tell you how sub-par it is.

God, Words of Wisdom, do you actually enjoy anything you play? you're thinking way too much while playing a game instead of enjoying it! sure, Lloyd is dumb, but that only brought me lulz. That was the purpose the developers had with him. You focus on the flaws so much and see none of the positives, of which there's a lot.

But yeah, you're right on one thing. Colette is the worst female character in a game and all the bullshit she puts you through is just not worth it. That's just unavoidable. She sucks so bad.

As for myself, I loved ToS. Great funny skits, very very fun battles, great graphics (even by todays Wii standards), very quick loading times, cooking contrary to what you think is fun and useful, ex-spheres have lots of uses if you combine them well...

I recommend this game to anyone who's into JRPG's.

How dare you speak ill of the epic cuteness that is Colette ;_;

Though, everyone seems to hate her. THAT DOESN'T MEAN I'LL FORGIVE YOU! BASTARDS! ALL OF YOU!

Epic stupidity that makes me cringe and want to rip her creator's head off. Or hell, just shoot myself whenever she speaks.

Lloyd was the most boring Tales RPG character I have ever played.
He has all the common artes from Tales games. Its like playing a textbook.

His personality kinda sucks too.

... and he still places on 2nd or 3rd place if I had to rank the characters. Yea, I didn't like the ToS cast. Zelos was good, Lloyd and Colette are slighty above average/average, all the others were meh and Genis sucked.

And this is where I stop. I don't want to go on with my disliking of ToS. But, the story got interested halfway through the game.

Sorry Majin and Soriku.

phew. At first I thought you were going to say it was Dawn of the New World, which would mean the worst lead character in the history of video games.

I don't get it. Is this some kind of injoke like the Capcom/Konami thing on neogaf? Because I've been through DotNW twice and Squall Leonhart has yet to show up in it.
