I'm not surprised PS3 beat the Xbox 360 by that much. I didn't see any packages worth while for the 360 during Black Friday

a bit too optmistic, isn't it?
MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

ok thanks nordlead because I found it impossible to believe PS2 did that good |
PS2 did do good, just before the current generation really took over. Heck, the X360 hasn't sold more than the PS2 since it launched.
PS2 = 41.8m units, X360 = 34.1m

However, the X360 launched while the PS2 was stronger so it's goal will always be tougher to accomplish than the PS3
VGChartz Hardware data for the period 30th Nov 2008 to 03rd Jan 2009:
Console PS3 X360
Total 2,190,818 3,247,596
Last year's sales numbers for December. This year the PS3 should easily outsell the 360 by a lot more than the 360 outsold the PS3.

The gap between the Wii and PS3+360 combined is 3.56 million (i.e. smaller than the gap between PS3 and 360). For PS3 to get 25%, it has to sell one third of Wii and 360 combined. Right now the gap is 3 million.

I'd add that the current trend is for the Wii marketshare to decrease, so the answer to the second question would be "infinite time".
Over the last 10 weeks we had
Console | Wii | PS3 | X360 |
Total
|
4,728,270
|
3,034,538
|
2,075,725
|
which amount to 48%, 31%, and 21% of the total sales respectively and show the recent trend. If we project the data from these last 10 weeks in the future - which is not realistic, of course - the PS3 would reach 25% in about 50 weeks.
Very nice ps3 sales, Ds is beast can´t beleive it sold 1 million only in US.
DS sales are amazing. Brilliant handheld, too. In fact, it's almost reached GB's lifetime sales point. How long did it take GB to reach 120million? 10 years?
