It is someone messing with you. PS3 vs. PS2 for that time period. The PS2 way outperformed the PS3 during 2006 (PS3 launch year)

PS2 did do good, just before the current generation really took over. Heck, the X360 hasn't sold more than the PS2 since it launched.

PS2 = 41.8m units, X360 = 34.1m
