I assume you mean in Japan.  In which case, I have a feeling Final Fantasy XIII will top a million week one, thus beating out New Super Mario Bros. Wii.  :P

Other than that, I agree with your sarcasm.  ^_^

I do. And I keep forgetting FFXIII is actually releasing. I half expected it to be the next Duke Nukem Forever. Still, FFXIII has not released as yet. My statement remains accurate. FFXIII might surpass it, but that is not this week.

Aye, but your statement encompassed the entirety of 2009.  If you were merely referring to 2009 up until this week, you would have said, "the largest opening of a home console game in 2009 yet."

NSMBW - 420k
Not bad for a first day. Definitely not a bomb, but it will take some time, before this game hits 1M in Japan.
Anyway, i`m not impressed.

PSP2 - 202k
This one did ok.

Samurai Warriors 3 - 81k
Those numbers look low to me, 1st did 654k in first week and 2nd did 316k. This one probably will sell 120k first week. I considered this game as big, which can sell 500k+ LTD, but looks like, not on Wii.

NSMBWii will take a whole two week to break a million at its current pace. How atrocious. I can't believe any game would take so unbelievably long to break a million in one specific region. Clearly it was a terrible launch. Of course I wouldn't expect anyone to be impressed by a game that is on track to have the largest opening of a home console game in 2009. That is hardly an accomplishment.

I take it you mean largest opening of a home console game in 2009 for Japan?  Cuz unfortunately, MW2 holds that title for WW and prolly will for a long, long time...at least until MW3.

Most games in Japan sell 2/3 of first week numbers in first day.

FFXIII will surpass, not just might.

Also, considering, that NSMB was going to save Wii in Japan, those first day numbers just don`t look impressive to me.

Interesting to see the closeness of the AC IIs. Bit of a boost in store for 360 this week? Could nudge 10K maybe.

I have no real idea about what the NSMB number means for the rest of the week, but I assume for a game like this it means at least double by the time the week ends. Looking good for an overall opening week of over well over 2 million. Gotta be happy with that. Off to a very good start, and BF week numbers yet to come.

NSMBWii has about the opening expected I feel. Maybe slightly below. Still has a shot at 1M week one which would be just incredible.

Go look at the other openings that big Nintendo titles have, as the Source said they generally double-triple their first day sales.

And shouldnt you atleast wait until hardware sales to see what affect this title has on Wii sales?

This post is so full of win that it is beyond words!

I find it somewhat pointless to even look at first day / first week sales of games like NSMB. As long as it doesn't completely bomb it's done its job, the legs are what really matters with a game like this one.
