Forums - Sales - Why aren't PS3 owners more dedicated to their system's amazing games?????

Well I finally see why your disappointed it's because you expect all these new/newish IP's that sony makes to sell buttloads like the established IP's such as COD,Halo,GT,Mario etc I.....some new IP's sell butloads too but not many does and even if they do they don't come close to selling like the established IP's.

Halo was a new I.P once, Call of Duty was a strong but not much more franchise, Mario was a new I.P once, and GT sold 10M when it was released. No theres a reason....

Sony tries to make games with good graphics, cinematic story lines etc. Nintendo makes them look like idiots and reaps in the cash by focusing on just game mechanics. Sure the critics don't like what Nintendo do, but it shows in the sales that the things Sony gives their games are things that for the most part people don't particularly care for as on the HD consoles and on the Wii the games with poorer graphics have sold heaps whilst Sony's graphics masterpieces have been relatively overlooked.

The two highest selling games on the PS3 aren't even HD!

So wat exactly your implying here??? Sony shud stop making these top quality titles and give their fans the same game evry time with little to no improvements and just add a part 2 or 3 at the title that way they'll be swimming in a pool of cash while their fanbase suffer from lack of new experience and new games? Sony is stupid for trying to deliver the best quality games to ppl? nope not IMO.....whats stupid IMO is ppl rushing to their local stores paying full price for a game that barely offers anything new because its called Call of duty or any popular name IP's out there meanwhile these companys are laughing their ass out counting their easy made money, dont give a rats on giving their fans the best experience HEK even raise the price of their game to wat it originally is and plans to continue on doing the same shit again with a bit of tweaks cause they know ppl will kill just to get it.

The sales will tell you what the fans want. If the fans want a sequel then they will pay for it. People don't just blindly sit around suffering for no reason because the software vendor deems they should. I don't think Mario fans are suffering... Nor pokemon... nor GT which is the same game with new cars and graphics essentially.

Sony is stupid because they failed to create franchises and they are reaching around for something that will stick. Do you think EA, the father of the milk it till its dead concept is creating new franchises because they want to get on our good books? No, both Sony and EA are similar in that they are looking to create new franchises to milk.

Do you want to know whats stupid? Its not the people going down to the store buying a game like call of duty and passing up something like Killzone. Do you know why? Because its probably a better, more accessible and more fun game for them to play. Its Sony for focusing on graphics and cutscenes and forgetting about simple things like split screen local multiplayer, forgetting that people percieve high latency 170ms+ killzone 2 thank you very much vs 100ms Halo 3 or 60 ms Call of Duty as bad/unresponsive controls and you can thank Sony for focusing on the kids jerking off at the screenshots on the internet and they forgot basic game fundamentals. Yes, Sony is the stupid one and the consumer is the smart one for not buying Killzone 2 for example and buying Call of Duty 6 instead.

What about those ppl who prefers KZ2 their stupid because the majority picked COD and they shud have followed?? So if KZ2 did have split screen, high letancy + the gr8 graphics, quality cut scenes, great story and MP do you really think it will outsell COD purely becaus its the better game and of course ppl will go for it cause as you said why ppl picked COD over KZ2.....its More "FUN" right??

That was totally the result of Sony being caught up on their own tangled web.

They tried to kill early the 360 using the same tactics used against the Dreamcast promising the moon and dangling the CGI carrot as if it were gameplay out of the console framebuffer. However this time around these theatrics didn't work and they had to deliver in the graphics department to avoid even more backlash hitting them, and after the several fiascos during the early days of the ps3 they couldn't afford any more.

Current-gen game collection uploaded on the profile, full of win and good games; also most of my PC games. Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts 1982-2008 (Requiescat In Pace).

In 2009, PS3 software is doing quite well given the install base. The software sales are just more spread out.

Americas

360 HW LTD: 19,711,221
PS3 HW LTD: 10,930,133
360:PS3 HW LTD Ratio: 1.80

360 SW 2009: 61,917,648
PS3 SW 2009: 38,545,204
360:PS3 SW 2009: 1.61

This shows that the average PS3 owner is buying more PS3 games than the average 360 owner is buying 360 games in 2009. Does not surprise me. Lots of North Americans bought a PS3 this year. And what do you do when you buy a new console? You want to buy a lot of games for your new toy. That's exactly what I did when I got my Xbox 360 early this year. I bought a total of 18 retail 360 games (almost all of them on sale or budget price) since getting the console and that doesn't include XBLA games (I have about 10 I think, some of them were free). In 2010 I'll probably cool off on my purchases. When you get a new console, you get a little buy happy and then the realization sets in that you bought way too much too quickly and then you think, "oh crap, I gotta halt my purchases for now."

I think an important reason is the different audience. The typical Xbox 360 owner is male, aged 12-18. Kids in that age have lots of free time they can spend in front of their console.

The typical PS3 owner however is aged 26-35. These gamers usually have a full-time job, maybe a family, and far less time they can spend on video games.

This sounds more like the Wii audience. And the PS3 crowd is just as male-centric as the 360 crowd, so you'd expect the software sales to be similar.

Currently playing on PS3: God of War III

Currently playing on Xbox360: Final Fantasy XIII

Currently playing on NDS: Chrono Trigger

mmm...first, I think that's not true (the ages). Second, if it were true, the 26-35 people have a lot more money than 12-18 kids, even with other expenses considered.

Well, I agree that in the end if you want to shift the most units you appeal to the broadest (I'll avoid lowest) common denomonator possible (look at Transformers 2 for a sterling example in another medium), however I do cringe at the bigger implications for this, with the potential to see the ndustry awash in almost annual refreshes of popular stuff (L4D2 anyone) and a huge fear of innovation.

Mind you, I'm a bit of a snob in some ways about this, so maybe the masses should have their fun!

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
