RE is bigger than Dead Space as a brand.
Because they didn't port the main game to the Wii first as they did with RE 4.

Resident Evil is a bigger franchise than Dead Space, pure and simple.
Better known franchise (among the "less than hardcore") + better boxart. Dead Space's boxart is a complete turnoff.

Not only is the franchise bigger, but it got to this niche well before everybody else jumped on the bandwagon.
Also, I think people like zombies in contemporary Earth better than zombies in space.
