Although this gen, i personally think they have surpassed last gen already. Q1/Q2 2010 just looks to be the icing on the cake.

I predict the day they cancel the PS2 for good, we will get some form of BC firmware update.

Id say:
85% chance this will allow PS2 PSN download games ONLY.
15% chance all PS2 games (from PSN and Disc)

This would also be a perfect time for the PSP2, which will be able to run these PSN PS2 titles (as well as the ps1 currently on the PSN)

NO. PS2 is still selling like hot cake for 9 years old console that also had biggest library of gmaes ever and still getting some games till now. I dont think by discontinued PS2 the PS3 sales will rise a lot. This week PS2 sold 82k. I dont think PS3 can sell 50k more. Besides PS2 is selling with profit and minimize loss from PS3. Sony will let PS2 go when it selling like 5k every week.

i don't think it needs to go just yet maybe the end of next year after Christmas?, i mean developers are still supporting it but with mostly shovelware these days

If they cut the ps2 it would probably bump up wii sales or the arcade 360 because they would then be the cheapest on the market.

PS2 and PSP are the only reasons the Sony gaming division didn't go completely broke. I hope they keep the PS2 going the full 10 years then kill it.
