Dont underestimate the power of a good and popular song, coupled with good advertising.

Example - Gears of War "Mad World"... Actually sent "Mad World" to number 1 in the UK charts.

The game made people buy the song which was already popular (xmas no1 2003). But would a popular song or a particular style of boxart make people buy a game? Who's going to buy the game that wasn't already going to buy it?

a BOX art is meant to catch one;s attention to a game, if people like a box art, they will research/enquire about the game which means there is a chance they may buy it eventually

5 - 6 years ago I used to find interst in games from their cool box arts.....enquire about them & a lot of the times buy them. One example is micro machines....a game which I still love to play

but now I'm a very hardcore gamer so I don't

S-E wants to SELL FF13 to people beyond the hardcore FF crowd....who would recognise the typical "just the logo & white background approach"

If S-E just listened to fans then they will run the sales of FF down into the ground.

No, the advert made people do it. Not the game itself.

Choosing a song by possibly the most popular female artist in the UK, as the theme song for the game... Will interest a lot of people, if advertised right.

And boxart also helps. In smaller ways though.
