Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

These people have been in the business for years. They know how it works. Who are we to tell them how to do their job?

Considering how many developers (and even publishers) are going out of business this gen, I think they could stand a little advice.

And, of course, the advice of people on a video game forum would have saved them from this fate?

Probably not... back in 2006 forum goers were still chanting the "Nintendo 3rd party" mantra and predicting 360 would get Dreamcasted.  Maybe they should've just listened to consumers and the market at large in 2007/2008/2009 though, which rejected PlayStation dominance in favor of returning to Nintendo?

We've had this thread MANY, MANY, MANY times.

And I'm sick of saying the same thing again and again, so I will leave you with this:

If a publisher or developer genuinely thought it would be advantageous to develop on Wii, they would. And they do. If a developer genuinely thinks it would be advantageous to make a certain TYPE of Wii game, they would do so. Developers are not so fickle as to DESPISE a console so much that they will not develop for it without a good reason, especially if they know the game is going to post a good profit.

These people have been in the business for years. They know how it works. Who are we to tell them how to do their job?

If they know how to do their job, then how come most are in the red?

Either this is extreme sarcasm making fun of things such as surveys saying the Wii audience is made up of kids, girls, and soccer moms.......or it's the complete opposite and is a realization of the status of the what "hardcore" games generally sell like on the Wii without cherrypicking

Cherrypicking ex. "What about Resident Evil 4?"

Mentioning RE4 on the Wii isn't cherrypicking, its the end result of what a well-designed game on the Wii is capable of.

Do you think little Bobby got Mario Kart and RE4 from his mom and dad? I'd highly doubt it. RE4 is a game that was done very well, and the dormant hardcore crowd went out and bought the game. They're waiting for more. You could ask why Metroid Prime 3 didn't sell well, which is another good game, but didn't get the same attention by the core crowd.  It is an interesting debate point.

Out of 20 Wii games I own, only 3 are third party, seriously, third parties need to step up on the Wii

Alright, people are noticing that my theory is flawed. Very well, back to my usual reply *sigh*

I'll see if I can find it. Damn, I can't remember the last thread's name, so I'll post a short version, without all of the trimmings.

1) A Wii game has to be different from the HD versions: different graphics, different control scheme, etc.

2) Developing a Wii game is risky: yes, there are games which have sold well on Wii. There are many more which haven't. Speaking strictly about what are regarded as quality games, it is more common to see one of these not selling particularly well on Wii than on the HD consoles. This may be because they are "niche". But when the Wii does get a "large" third party game, while it does sell very well, it doesn't match the sales of the HD versions. And I know everyone is thinking about Modern Warfare 2, and that's because Infinity Ward really can't be bothered (see reason 1).

You have nothing to say to prove otherwise so you'd just rather edit mine.

You're just as good as other rabid Wii fanboys.

Now, whose fault is that? The third parties' for not making Wii games, or yours for not buying them and supporting their efforts? Because I can sure as hell name more than three quality third party Wii games. Off the top of my head:

-Zack and Wiki

-MadWorld

-No More Heroes

-World at War

-The Conduit

Five, without even thinking.

Developing HD games is also 'risky'. Just ask Free Radical, GRiN, Sega Racing Studio, Factor 5, Pandemic Studios...
