Forums - Sales - Wii at 35 million worldwide XBOX 360 at 29 million Jan 1st 2009

@The source,

I believe you meant Jan 1st 2009 for your 42m prediction, yes?

How will 360 get up to 29-30 million by next year. I mean with what haha. Halo is gone gentlemen. Not only that it will solely have to rely on huge success in America, where with Halo 3 it can hardly sell more than the Wii. It's fading in Europe where PS3 and Wii will be outselling. And MS would get more sales by not releasing it in Japan haha. Yea haha seriously.

I mean highest I could put 360 in actual sales by end of 2008 is 25 million. And that's really pushing it.

Wii on the other hand. 35-40 million is a good prediction.

Halo is gone, and sales are going up instead of down. That should tell you something!

 Well they've returned to normal in Europe/other.  Only in America are they still up.  And they are probably staying up in light of holidays coming up soon.  Really I can't explain why 360 sales are still up in America to the extent they are.  I think they should have dropped to 100k a week but whatever.

Anyways why do you pick and choose in my post.  I didn't write that so you could pick out 4 words.  Either respond to all of it or none of it.

I don't know why, but I have little faith in Nintendo's lasting appeal from my personal experience with it.
I'd say somewhere around 35 million for Wii and 20-22 million for 360.
The Wii will have a sales apex sometime in the middle of 2008, and then start to slow considerably by years end regardless of the games.
It will then plummet in sales in 2009 and onwards.

And don't tell me I'm on crack or anything, it's my firm belief.
Funny how many people claim that Nintendo sales numbers will remain high throughout, ensuring Ninty's victory in the race, but then the same people claim that Blu-Ray's obvious sales lead over HD-DVD means nothing.

Please don't kill me for not being a Wii fan, I've seen people shot down in here before for not supporting Nintendo.

Actually sales increased leading up to Halo 3 in NA and Others. The Others sales have been falling steadily back to normal since then and it appears they may be about to level off  before going up again for the holidays.  While the US numbers have remained relatively high since launch, they haven't actually gone up since launch week and in fact have come down a bit over the last 2 weeks.  But again I suspect things will go a bit higher before for the holidays before returning to a stable sustainable sellthrough rate.

 Hey don't lump two groups together!  I think the Wii's sales will stay relatively high throughout 2008 and I don't think the Blu-Ray sale's lead over HD-DVD means nothing.  I may not like Blu-Ray as a format but at present I see it winning the war between the two...although I am not convinced that is for the good of consumers tbh.

I have been reading all  the blogs on this discussion.  The thought that comes to my mind is what will be the effect when sony stops selling the ps2?  Will we see it in 08? or longer?  The ps2 is still selling alot of units.  When that's gone which system will benfit the most?
