Forums - Nintendo - Should Square port FFXIII to Wii?

I want to go back to the point where we started this argument:

It makes no sense to port the game to the Wii because FF is a brand that sold not because of it's gameplay, but MOSTLY because of it's great production values.
If the game was a Wii exclusive from the start it would make some kind of sense, but porting a game, that a lot of it's success is due to it's production values, to a console whose specs are much lower.

(And I give up on the story point here, it's obvious that we both look on the subject from our point of view, and that are a lot more points to consider).

You're right about not porting FFXIII, but for all the wrong reasons.

But yes

It makes no sense to port FFXIII to the Wii

What is wrong about my reasons? If they are wrong, than what point is there for not porting the game?

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

"Production values" roughly translates into effort used to make something look great - a game on the Wii can have production values that would be absolutely stunning, atl east enough so that technology is not the primary driving factor of leaving behind the platform

I misspoke; I agree with you concerning the demographic problem, just not the reason for it.

Well for the production values arguement, that would be the same thing said about CoD4 which wasn't supposed to be able to run on the Wii, they put a lot of work into it and it's a faithful port with all the action, just the graphics aren't as good, but every story piece, scale, animation, etc is there, and it still feels like that blockbuster movie.  So yeah with the work you could make it work on the Wii, is there a reason for porting it though?  Not likely, since people that care will get it no matter the platform.

MaxwellGT2000 - "Does the amount of times you beat it count towards how hardcore you are?"

Wii Friend Code - 5882 9717 7391 0918 (PM me if you add me), PSN - MaxwellGT2000, XBL - BlkKniteCecil, MaxwellGT2000

"You want it to be delayed further????"

You're confusing port with multiplatform.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

I'd like to see the ones for the PSx on the DS and the PS2 ones for the Wii... 13 and 14 for the next console, if it's HD of course...

Hoping for VII, VIII, and IX on the DS, now that the carts are almost as big as a CD, and the compression is a lot better than MPEG-1.

I'd rather see V/VI remade for DS than PS1 ports.

Edit: I really think that Square believes there is no market for their games (casuals) and this is why you will probably not see any main series game from Square on the Wii.

So have you never heard of Dragon Quest, or....

DQ is big in Japan, FF Japan and the West.  West Wii market is very different to Japanese one.  Keeping FF on the HD consoles (or at least PS3) ensures big sales for worldwide.  I think western Wii markets have proven they don't care for most core games multiple times over, so is a large risk.

'Core" Japanese Wii games do better in the west than in Japan (No More Heroes, Muramasa, HoTD2&3, etc).  And honestly, FF is pretty damn casual/mainstream these days anyway, which has no problem selling on Wii (Guitar Hero, RE4, Sonic, etc).

If Japanese developers want to target ALL markets, Wii really is the best console platform...

Those 3 examples even if you add the sales together would be poor for a FF game.

Fine.  Name one 'core' Wii game that sold better in Japan than outside it.

They don't even bother to release a good number outside of Japan...there is the faith.

So you can't then?  So then, why claim "I think western Wii markets have proven they don't care for most core games multiple times over, so is a large risk." if you can't even support it with anything?

Besides, Final Fantasy's about as casual/mainstream as RPGs get.  Maybe even moreso than Dragon Quest, given the gameplay and new multiplayer focus of the latter over pretty cinematics of the former.  Hell, Pokemon's more "hardcore" when you actually get down to it.
