Forums - Nintendo - Should Square port FFXIII to Wii?

Came across these shots while trolling NeoGAF, and to be honest they kinda shocked me...

... upscaled FFXII already looks remarkably close to FFXIII in battle, and PS2's appreciably sub-Wii in tech (hell, it was sub-GC for the most part too).  Would a Crystal Tools supported, asset downscaled, 480p Wii version of FFXIII be worth it to SE?  Would it sell?

yes they should, if only to cause the entire internet to break for hours on end.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Downgrading the game to Wii standards would be too much of a hassle I think. Especially with the numbers FFCC is pulling these days.

I would buy it.Sell,I'm not that sure...and Crystal Bearers looks great

Now Jarrod that's not a fair comparison shot and you know it

The FFXIII screen is at no less than twice its original resolution, and that PS2 emulator is runnign more filtering effects than God

But I don't know. Would Crystal Tools allow them to scale character models and stuff without having to redraw them from scratch? If not, then no, they probably shouldn't.

If theres a chance for a whole bunch more people to play it?

Yes.

But, will it be worth it for SE? That's another question...

ok, legitimate question. Should we really be basing mainline series potential sales off of a spin-offs sales? They are different kinds of games, so they would attract different kinds of audiences and there is no reason to believe that Final Fantasy wouldn't sell gangbusters on the best selling console if it came out the same day. Of course, we know that won't happen so it won't be worth the effort, but this has nothing to do with the visual quality affecting sales.

It would sell ridicilously well, because it is Final Fantasy and there are plenty Wii-only gamers that would love to see a main FF back on Nintendo system. But i dont think it will happen, if they would ever port it the Meltdown on the Internet would be insane.

lol, yeah.  But that's why I mentioned it was upscaled.  Still, I'm pretty shocked how close the assets look for the non-cinematic bits between games.  I have to wonder how a 480p version of FFXIII with downscaled assets/geometry would fare...

It would probably be a LOT of work unless they just have lower res textures and lower poly character models laying around (they don't) so really it would end up being a year later and probably not sell nearly as well since people that REALLY want it would just adopt a console that has it.
