Forums - Nintendo - Question for the Mario Lovers: NSMB vs Galaxy

I grew up on 3D Mario, but 2D Mario still has that magical appeal^^

I vote for both.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Its really a question about fun factor vs wow factor.

As for NSMBWii, You're seldom gonna sit down and say wow! that was a really neat touch, or wow! why have'nt I ever seen that in a videogame before!?

Despite the marvel of Super Mario Galaxy, ive had much more fun playing NSMBWii. Its really hard, couse I kinda want both in my my gaming life.

With NSMBWii, ppl who knew I was a Nintendo fan, would call me after they saw this NSMB commercial and like: "Did you get the new mario game??" And I was like: "wtf? eh..sure"

Ive never had that kinda reaction to a videogame before, except for some early installments of Mario Party.

So if I HAD to choose, I'd choose an innovative, challenging and fun mario experience that was extremely accessible... and that would have to be NSMBWii.

that's actually kinda like what happened to me lol, my friends for the first time didn't want me to play this game without them... of course id play in secret and pretend i only played with them, lol

in fact one of my friends actually was looking at more trailers for NSMBWii than i was, he'd constanlty send me youtube links to trailers, id try not to watch as i didn't want to spoil ANYTHING. he was so excited for the game, lol, never happened before, not even with galaxy. by the way, he did have a NES and a SNES so this shouldn't be that surprising.

although i absolutely adore both 2D and 3D mario, my choice would have to be Galaxy-esque games. that game really dazzled and astounded me with it's greatness.

before NSMBWii was showed at E3, my dream was that someday Nintendo would make a new 2D mario... imagine my happiness when they announced NSMBWii! at one point i thought super paper mario was what NSMBWii is now, back then i was so excited for that game too.

thankfully though, nobody has to make this difficult choice... this gen is so amazing in that we get TWO 3D mario's AND a 2D mario too. that's why this gen is THE best gen ever for me. it even has TWO mega Zeldas, what more chould one person ask for??

You're so right! I didn't even realize that all other gen since N64 hadn't gotten more than 1 Mario 3D. Wii = 2 Mario 3D, which Galaxy is the best Mario 3D ever, and a 2D Mario, that is my favourite (it combines all the best elements from previous 2D Marios, why should I don't love it?)

Actually the same. My friends are all Xbox lovers and now they're calling me each week to play Mario Bros Wii for the multiplayer. This game is totally awesome, it gave me as much magic as SMB3 did, and I'm so disappointed those reviewers didn't give it at least a 90! Did you see the awful review from Onion (AV CLUB)? They didn't look like professionnal... I don't know why Metacritic gave them the chance to rate it.

^^ sometimes i check random Wii games and this "Onion AV club" usually shows up as an absurdly LOW review score... nobody at metacritic notices this? jeez all it takes is one look or something. i've seen it in other system's games too. i've seen it destroy some games' metascore >_>

2d ... Super Mario Bros. 3 FTW

                          GETTIN' CHRONOCRUNK

Both! But I'll give an edge to New SMB Wii because it's been so long since a proper TV one came out and the four player is rad.

3D. Galaxy was too amazing.

I think 2D Mario's are more fun to play. 3D Mario's are a totally different experience. But with NSMB Wii bringing multiplayer I have to pick 2D.

I loved the old 2D Mario games too, but the 3D ones are cool too, like Super Mario 64. As for New Super Mario Bros Wii, I'll tell you when I get it for Christmas (hopefully).
