Its really a question about fun factor vs wow factor.
As for NSMBWii, You're seldom gonna sit down and say wow! that was a really neat touch, or wow! why have'nt I ever seen that in a videogame before!?
Despite the marvel of Super Mario Galaxy, ive had much more fun playing NSMBWii. Its really hard, couse I kinda want both in my my gaming life.
With NSMBWii, ppl who knew I was a Nintendo fan, would call me after they saw this NSMB commercial and like: "Did you get the new mario game??" And I was like: "wtf? eh..sure"
Ive never had that kinda reaction to a videogame before, except for some early installments of Mario Party.
So if I HAD to choose, I'd choose an innovative, challenging and fun mario experience that was extremely accessible... and that would have to be NSMBWii.

that's actually kinda like what happened to me lol, my friends for the first time didn't want me to play this game without them... of course id play in secret and pretend i only played with them, lol
in fact one of my friends actually was looking at more trailers for NSMBWii than i was, he'd constanlty send me youtube links to trailers, id try not to watch as i didn't want to spoil ANYTHING. he was so excited for the game, lol, never happened before, not even with galaxy. by the way, he did have a NES and a SNES so this shouldn't be that surprising.

Actually the same. My friends are all Xbox lovers and now they're calling me each week to play Mario Bros Wii for the multiplayer. This game is totally awesome, it gave me as much magic as SMB3 did, and I'm so disappointed those reviewers didn't give it at least a 90! Did you see the awful review from Onion (AV CLUB)? They didn't look like professionnal... I don't know why Metacritic gave them the chance to rate it.
