Forums - Sales - Which 3rd party company is the big winner this gen?

Hey guys,

I was just wondering which 3rd party company is THE big winner for this generation. This generation is really unique. The market is actually divided in 2 markets. HD (some say hardcore) and SD (some say casual). The Wii is winning this gen by a big margin, but it is still the winner with the smallest market share. Anyway, which 3rd party company is the big winner?

Here are some thoughts:

  • Activision (Guitar Hero became a huge franchise, CoD is unstoppable)
  • Epic (The Unreal engine 3 was one of the most used engines this gen and they created the 10 million selling franchise Gears of War)
  • Ubisoft ("Imagine" games are very popular on the DS and very cheap to produce. Rainbow Six did a pretty good job, but Assassins Creed became a totally new and great franchise. With Splinter Cell Conviction, Ubi has another great game to release soon)

So, what do you think? Name some companies.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Bethesda, most people didn't even count them as a publisher before this gen.

You cant really count Epic as a 3rd party company since Gears is exclusive, I would say Activision wins.

"This gen", technically it is Activision, but only because they are burning their fuel too quickly, it comes at the cost of future failure.
So, from another point of view, this might be their worst generation ever, since it causes their doom.

Activision-Blizzard

By far.

It's Ubisoft.

A lot of people will say Activision become they've grown a lot as a company, but so has Ubisoft. And unlike Activision, Ubisoft actually understands the market. While little ol' Activision repeats the same mistakes that led to EA's declines (but making EA look tame by comparison), Ubisoft continues to focus their efforts on the Wii and DS, producing casual games that give them pure profit. And with surefire hits like Tom Clancy and Assassin's Creed on the HD consoles, they incur few losses on games.

I may not always like Ubisoft, but they get it, and they're the big winner this gen.
