Let's take a hypothetical situation, where Nintendos next system would be the only system on the market next generation and therefore all the 3rd party games would be on the system. Would the people who you call "hardcore" exit the market completely or buy the next Nintendo system to play the games they want. Given your assertion, it would be the former, but i'm inclined to believe it's the latter. |
This is an interesting point: a multiplatform owner is considered "hardcore" when he owns a PS3 or a 360, but then magically becomes "casual" if he owns a Wii as well... but it's still the same person, the same gamer with the same tastes... so something's wrong here...
Many "hardcore" gamers are way more open-minded than what the industry may think, and will simply want to play the best games out there, no matter the console... in that sense, Wii's library is a perfect addition to the HD consoles libraries (which are nearly the same)...
But, Wii can't be the "main" console for many of these "hardcore" gamers, just because of the lack of the most important multiplatform HD games... otherwise, it could have taken the place of the PS2... i really think so... it's mainly due to technical reasons, maybe, but i think the way the industry consider the Nintendo gamers (casuals, women, kids, families, etc) is the main problem... and will still exist, whatever Nintendo does, or not...
