@cliffhanger: There was a survey in the US just recently that showed that about half of HD console owners own Wiis. And that people play primarily Nintendos games with their Wiis. Obviously these people aren't the hardcore gamers you mentioned.
Let's take a hypothetical situation, where Nintendos next system would be the only system on the market next generation and therefore all the 3rd party games would be on the system.
Would the people who you call "hardcore" exit the market completely or buy the next Nintendo system to play the games they want.
Given your assertion, it would be the former, but i'm inclined to believe it's the latter.
