Forums - Nintendo - Darkside Chronicles / Dead Space extraction gameplay progression (chart)

You know why reviewers gave this game such high scores? I think its because they played it only once.

Uhh ok. So apparently you don't like rail games. Sorry to hear that, your really missing out. DSE especially is one of the best games released for Wii this year, and DC is quite a bit of fun too. Frankly I'm glad people who like the genre review these games. Kind of like an JRPG fan is glad I'm not reviewing games in their genre.

Half of the criticism seems that there are too many boring spots. Unless all you ever play UT2004 and Serious Sam you can't really fault a rail shooter for not being action packed and paced similarly to any 3rd person experience. DSE for instance is MUCH more action oriented than the original. DC is paced similarly to RE4 and 5 as well. All this just further illustrates the bizzareness of this diagram. If anything rail shooters suck because they are too short, but I have seen no genre that begs to be replayed more (excepting MMORPGs).

Uh, you can use the same pix with most of FPS single player, except FPS SP don't have the replayability (I have B to S rank at all level of RE:UC and a lot of unlockable guns maxed out). Oh btw, with this one, you have local multiplayer, something current console FPS don't have anymore, so that's great after a good multi NSMBWii with your friend ^^ whenever you have any..

Yeah, these games are so good that they sell A LOT!

Right?

I haven't played either Dead Space: Extraction or Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles (though I'm planning on picking up RE: DC), but dude ... This sounds like just about any rail shooter, like, ever. Isn't this how they're... Well, supposed to be?

You're generalizing waaaaaay too much.

Kinda... Ghost squad was a little better because at least it had more action and less cutscenes. And it was CHEAPER!

However, there´s two troubles here: the first is the fact that the genre is getting too old for its own good, and you cant release a on rails shooter and expect it to sell 2 million copies (like the stupid publishers expect it to do)

The second one is the fact that developers want the game to be suspense filled and scary... while you´re shooting every single piece of furniture looking out for collectibles, or when you´re through the same stage and same dialog and same every-3-seconds-a-new-scripted-sequence for the sixth time trying for a higher score.

It dosent work. Its boring. Its a cheap excuse for a game. And publishers still force you to buy because they dont publish anything else.

Do you see any other capcom wii game for this year´s holydays?

But for me, what´s stranger is the review scores. 8.5? "Lookout leon" x 25 + shaky cam = 8.5????? For real???? Something wrong here.

I'd like to see a pan out for House of the Dead, Overkill.

"The second one is the fact that developers want the game to be suspense filled and scary"

Change "developers" with "reviewers" and you've answered why they got good reviews.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

The moral of this thread is 'if you don't like it, don't buy it'.
