It steals some casuals, I guess. For me, it could never replace the marvelous DS.
It is a threat, somewhat.

Oh noes, DS is doomed!
As soon as the iPhone gets a library 1/10 as good as the DS.
I read that article this morning, much of it was utter crap, this quote illustrates perfectly:
Then there is Modern Combat: Sandstorm — the iPhone version of the bestselling Call of Duty: Modern Warfare games — which gets a multiplayer update next month.

The iPhone is not a gaming device. It's an MP3 player with a web browser and many other applications, which happen to include a few, basic, games.
If somebody wants a portable gaming console, they will get a DS (or to a lesser extent, a PSP). If they want a multimedia device, they will get an iPhone. This hurts the PSP a little, but then the iPhone is a far superior multimedia device. The DS isn't really a multimedia device at all. It is predominantly a gaming handheld, with a couple of other nifty features thrown in. Very few people, if any, will choose the iPhone over one of the gaming handhelds based on its library.
at school loads of people play ROCKBAND by bluetooth on the iphone/ipod touch
It becomeing a phenomenon
Ds & PSP aren't relevant to those people anymore
Like it or not, it reminded me of the way we use to play Pokemon like this 10 years ago

Yep, I notice a lot of people playing Tap Tap Revenge when I happen to be in the cafeteria.

The iPhone may have 20 000 games, however... how many of those are enjoyable for more than 15 seconds?
