Anyway, my thoughts are that the word gay can have separate meanings of bad and homosexual. The meaning of bad may have originated in insulting homosexuals but in my opinion it no longer necessarily has those connotations.

So then, do you think that the meaning of "gay" as to mean "uncool" can be divorced from its homonyn? If so, is the crusade against the usage - like that ad campaig, i think "Think Before You Speak" or somesuch - off-base in terms of intent and effect?

avinash: i think the analogy you made has to do more with political gain.. and shit n stuff. people make fun of white people all the time, i dont give a shit and neither should anybody else. the only time i see it as a problem is when it has to do with people's chances at getting a certain job, or getting into a certain school. kind of like affirmative action. thats more discriminatory than calling something 'gay.' its a lot more damaging to society.
