That depends I fully understand Nintendo wasn't competing initially. They were targetting a totally different demographic. I used fairy tale because the idea that Nintendo wasn't going to compete with Sony or Microsoft might have been a great marketing idea and a great idea as a whole but it is illogical. Of course once success is reached the competition will mimic it inturn starting competition all over.
I know I myself remember a Nintendo spokesman saying go get a Wii60. After hearing all the non-competition talk at Nintendo I decided to purchase a 360. Now was that really non-competition? Or was it friendly competition.
The Blue Ocean strategy worked to ellevate Nintendo's ability to compete. But as I said Nintendo is and always was actually competing. Sure they created a new market that no competitor had taken advantage of , but every X-Box/PS3 sold is another blow to Nintendo. Today Microsoft and Sony and purposely going after Nintendo's market share and creating new Blue Oceans.
They are competing and I wonder if asked today would Iwata still encourage gamers to purchase competitors platforms? Would Reggie say that Microsoft and Sony aren't competitors? Or did the dilusional idealogy that Nintendo wasn't going to compete this generation go the way of the dinasuars?
