Well, I really doubt it would be next year, or the year after. And, I agree, don't buy launch systems unless you have a really good reason to. Every generation, systems break down more and more.

But, wait and see how things play out, you may not even want the next xbox, so, don't let that be a factor in anything. If you do want it, you can always wait, and see how well it does. 360 at the moment can't hold it's own against the PS3, and it may have damaged it's overall reputation. But, again, we wont know until we see how the system sales after it is released... and, if it's not before December 21st, 2012, I don't think it'll matter anyway.

Just don't let the next gen factor into your decision, the PS4 may come out later, or the next nintendo console.. maybe you'll want those more..

I get where your coming from Slimebeast though, it does sound un-reasonable, but at the time I hadn't been playing games very much at all and wanted to focus on schoolwork - so I thought Id ditch gaming. After a month with no games at all you soon miss them :)

Yeah, and especially u are a fairly big and biased Sony fan. Lots of people get both HD consoles but very few replace their favorite brand with the opposite brand.

Wait, you're thinking of spending more than it costs to fix your existing console to buy a product known to have a higher failure rate because your console with a lower failure rate broke and have already sold all your games?  Oh, and you're also going to move from a free online environment to an ongoing subscription?

If you're that against failure you might want to rethink your strategy there.  In fact, sounds like you should be getting a Wii.

As for new 360, who knows?  In theory it'll come sooner than a new PS but it's clear MS want to extend the life a little.  Wait and see how Natal sells, that will likely be a good pointer for whether MS decide to keep 360 on shelves longer or reach for a new model.
