Forums - Sales - MW2 will suffer of a DQ scenario?

This thread would be less ironic were Dragon Quest IX not continuing to see very strong sales despite its tremendous opening.

also who cares if mw2 is super front loaded.  name me a developer tha twoudl be pissed with 7 million sales, or wahtever was first week

@munkeh

7 million was day one for all platforms combined

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Dragon Quest is popular in Japan, a very frontloaded territory. Games in the West, particularly hyped ones, tend to have much better legs.

I agree with ioi here. Around 50%.

9 million. And Activision would be royally pissed.

But that would require not a single person to buy it after 15th November 2009, which is somewhat impossible.

Well it will be more 50% in week one I think

So are you saying 14m lifetime? Less than Modern Warfare 1?

I won't be that suprised if it sells less than MW1.

MW1 had amazing word of mouth this one seems to have more mixed opinions.

Not about the multiplayer which is what sells the game

Well, DQ games are knowed to be pretty front-loaded, in some titles the game sold near 75% of lifetime in first week. Since MW2 had such a monster release week, i can't see this game having legs. What do you think?:

That depends.  Is the game going to suffer from the PC sales like people think and will the holiday sales help it?  Also, in comparison, DQIX is going to have very mixed results, because the international version is going to come out at least, if not more than a year later.  And since Nintendo has said they're going to market the game this time, it might actually push quite a few more sales then the meager amount the game usually sees outside of Japan.  Possibly even go multiple weeks with sustained moderate to high sales through word of mouth or good advertising.  So you might have been better to make a comparison to something else.  Halo maybe?

Six upcoming games you should look into:

I see NSMBW, AC2 & maybe L4D2 outselling it this week.

Though, if I had a choice L4D2 would sell more than Mario or AC. :D

L4D2? Really?

500k is an extremely optimistic estimate for that game's opening. Half of what MW2 will probably sell Week Two.

NSMBWii probably will.

AC2: Very possible. Not a certainty.

I say NSMBWii will be first for the week, then 360 MW2, then 360 AC2, then PS3 MW2 (those two might be the other way around), then PS3 AC2, then L4D2.

No mw2 will sell more then mw1 (mainly because the love of the first is being transferred to over to the second game). If mw2 gets mxed word of mouth then it will more negatively affect mw3 then the current version.

It happens in movies all the time where the sequel does better then the first because of the love of the original and the third iteration doesn't do aswell because of the negative word of mouth from the second. Take the matrix trilogy as a classic example of this.
