so far for 2009 they stand at:

1,196,558 (-59%)  
1,157,157 (+16%)  

very close so far and with one MASSIVE game to be released for each this holiday season (NSMBwii & FFXIII) it could be an even closer finish.

I think the PS3 will just beat out the Wii, it has more momentum going into the holidays and i think FFXIII will be more of a system seller than NSMBwii. that plus it being a blue-ray player/media hub will give it the edge imo.

what do you think?

The PS3 could be tied in about a month. Really it's hard to tell until those 2 games are released. But it will be awesomely close.

I think... that these sales are pathetic. 1.1m? From the leading console in the whole year? Japanese market depresses me.

Anyway, I think NSMBWii is gonna do more damage than FFXIII hardware wise. Maybe not in the first week, but certainly in the long term.

I think the key thing to note though is just how bad the sales are overall. Whether Wii get's up by 1-2% or the PS3 by the same amount it really doesn't matter, 1-2% of 1.1 million means almost nothing in the big picture.

Just makes you wonder what's going to happen to consoles in Japan in the next gen.
