Had Fallout 3 not released, then I'd probably vote for Bethesda.

not really a comparison, different ends of the RPG spectrum.

Bioware. Really not much of a contest if you ask me. Bioware has proven themselves over and over again to make simply fantastic games and there aren't many developers in any genre department that have the rep they do.

Some people don't seem to understand Bethesda's vision. Their idea is to make RPGs where you have a huge world and tons of stuff to do, it's all about the freedom. Bethesda games are the opposite of linear games like Bioware games.

Instead many people perceive Bethesda as they would be somehow weaker at game craftmanship just because their games don't have as focused storytelling. But it's a misunderstanding of what they wanna do. Also, if you make open world games it's impossible to make them as 'tight' and bug-free as linear games (something that Bethesda gets so much unfair criticism for).

Reviewers get this thankfully. Else Bethesda wouldn't be able to outscore Bioware at Gamerankings and Metacritic reviews (not using that as an argument that Bethesda is better than Bioware though as their average scores are very close around ~90%).

Well if voting is still open I vote for Bethesda. Fallout 3, Oblivion and Morrowind are 3 of my favorite games of all time

Why would you combined Black Isle with Bethesda.

Black Isle wanted to do a Fallout 3 but Bethesda basically bought the title out from under them.

Black Isle's fallout 3 woulda been so much better too... no offense to Bethesda... but Fallout 1&2 were amazing.

Overall, Bioware wins by a huge marigin. As for this generation though, I would have to go with Bethesda. Fallout 3 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Mass Effect for me.
