Forums - Nintendo - Resident Evil 5 on Wii “possible”

^ @Boneitis
Yea, if you look at the first frame of the video, its 8.5fps!! If you compare this to a more decent video of this very same benchmark, the difference is pretty large, on lowest setting like in this you can't even see the crazy red eyes or any eyes in the mobs, after a while its like you are just killing black people holding up weapons. This is a far cry from high setting.

From what I read, this game is no where near as good as RE4, not sure I care if it comes to the Wii :/ if it does, it'll be watered down, what good will that be.

This benchmark is available for download - http://www.google.com.my/search?q=re5+benchmark+download

This is RE 5 on a sub par PC, Wii is better than this, but by how much? This using the very low end 7300GS video card playing the benchmark at 800x600, Wii's 480p is 720x480.

You're not taking into consideration even at the lowest quality there is more going on there than a typical Wii game. Such as the amount of polygons used, amount of models on screen at once, large detailed environment, shader, lighting, physics, etc.

I just have a single core processor with a Geforce 7600. My computer can play games like Unreal Tournament 3, Half-Life 2, Fear, and Quake 4 on high settings. I was even able to play Bioshock on medium settings. I'm reluctant to believe the Wii can do any of that.

Edit: Well maybe the Wii can run a few of those games, but only with low settings and poor frame rate.

Eh, geometry in that video is far below RE4 already, nevermind the texturing (which is sub-N64, lol) and it's running about a third the framerate.   And honestly, the first village in RE4 was just as complex, with just as many enemies onscreen as the first shanty town in RE5, so we know AI isn't an issue.  As is, that video looks more like the mobile version of RE4 than the GC/Wii version.

Where Wii really couldn't keep up is the HDR lighting and shading, it's just not flexible enough with a big enough pipe.  DSC achieves a similar look with baked effects though, which I think is why we now have a Capcom producer saying RE5 on Wii is possible.  Lighting was the one thing really holding a credible downport back.

I wonder how it's gonna look. I mean will it look beter than RE4 Wii version or just the same or what?

Considering RE4 is a GC game, it should look significantly better... I mean, compare Super Mario Sunshine to Super Mario Galaxy and it's a huge difference in terms of shaders and detail.

Did I miss something? Everyone is acting like a Wii version is in the works. I thought the producer was only saying that it was possible, not that it was being made.

Considering how RE4:Wii did, I think they'd be dumb not to do it... I'm pretty sure either RE5:Wii or another RE game (not on rails) will appear on the Wii.

I didn't care much for RE 5 anyway...I played it on PS3 and it felt too short, though I did really enjoy listening to Sheva say things like "I owe you one" or "Thanks partner". Or when she'd scream when she got attacked. That was pretty awesome.

Bah!

of course RE5 can be done on the wii, it's just won't be the same game that all of are us know.

If it does eventually get ported, then don't expect the same exact game, compromises will be taken, not only on the graphics department but also on the physics, AI, and amount of enemies, it's pretty much the typical stuff, take a look at dead rising to give ya an idea of the difference from the original 360 one to the wii one. The only thing that can remain the same is really the gameplay mechanics.

i think we will see some sort of announcement in the coming year. it feels like they r spicing the news up for future announcement.

Having actually completed RE5 (both solo and co-op) I can safely say AI, number of enemies and physics aren't anything beyond even RE4 really.  Models, environments and textures could be redone to RE4's standard, and they could use the baked effects/lights from DSC to achieve similar results.

Dead Rising was a much more intensive game processing wise given it was so open and literally had hundreds of zombies/objects onscreen.  Something more scripted and linear like RE5, or even the solo portion of Lost Planet, would be much easier to bring to Wii.  The core game in RE5 could be done 100%, it's just the visuals that'd take a hit.

There's also a question of developer ability.  It sounds like a RE5 would likely go to cavia given their work on the Chronicles spinoffs, while Dead Rising was outsourced to TOSE (who's somewhat notorious for crappy conversions/ports).
