I did a non gamer test on NSMBWii. ^_^

I decided to invite some neighbors and family.

1st. My uncle who at 61 had a vague memory of “Mario” but tried to play, he died 3 times off the first 2 goombas then died at his first jump. We played for perhaps 10 minutes but he had to leave for business, he returned later asking to play but I had to tell him tomorrow. (I was busy)

2nd  My daughter and neighbors kids (7,9ish) She kicked their butts =) But outside of making little boys cry like grown men about getting used as a stepping stone to success by a girl they all had an hour of fun that they didn’t want to end. They picked up on the game very quickly especially my daughter as she never played a Mario game before. The other kids just didn’t have gamer blood in them, but they lost with style and in the end had to rely on her amazing powers of running through the stage and jumping. (None of them died to the first goomba) To be fair she did see me playing first.

3rd  My neighbor after wrenching the controllers from their kids hands we played myself, my daughter, and my neighbors, I could tell they were salivating to play but didn’t want to make it look that way to their kids. They were amazingly pro at the game though, it was understood that they destroyed NSMB DS and I didn’t expect the abuse I got =(, even my own flesh and blood showed me no mercy when they would just leave me in the bubble. (I really don’t like the sand stage 2-1.

That’s it, I want to know how the Australians are doing =), so far its nice, the only bad thing is I expected Mario World but this game is like Mario Bros. silly me.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

Thanks for the test results. And a special thanks for converting more people to the Mario Side. You gotta watch out for those family members, man! Quick question though: what feature(s) do you think made the most impression with them? With you?

I'm speaking for myself only here, but I believe the former eschews the linearity and faster-pace of the latter in favor of a greater emphasis on secrets and level replayability. Getting to the end isn't the goal, nor is conquering the game; exploration and savoring are the order of the day.

That's a pretty nice order of the day, all told!
