I don't get the obsession either, but people throw hissies left and right. It was some guy on Gamefaqs.

As an EU dude, I don't care about this but I have time on my hands ^_^

I think anyone who watches TV with HDTV watches movies, shows in lower quality but Blu-ray still is a huge improvement in both sound and resolution. It's just me but if I going to own a movie to keep I usually choice the format with the best image and sound.

Quality is fine. If I want to watch a movie in HD, I have them send me the Blu-ray disc. As for the codecs, if M$ doesn't let them use them for PS3/Wii streaming, my guess would be that Netflix would go a different route altogether. I don't think they'd want to be controlled by M$ in what they could or couldn't do.

Microsoft will probably let them use the codec but they are just trying to drag it out  as long as they can.  So they can build up a majority of the console use.  Its a dick thing to do but I don't blame them.  Sony or nintendo would do the same exact thing.

Right now Silverlight is the best streaming codec available and I am sure netflix knows this as well.  They would probably be willing to keep it even if microsoft doesn't allow it on the other consoles.  I don't know this for certain but I would imagine netflix still streams a lot of material to computers (probably more so than the consoles combined).  So they wouldn't want to piss off these users.

There is always something newer and better coming down the road so who knows what tomarrow may bring.

Yeah if I want quality I'll watch a bluray. Netflix streaming on XBL looks grey and washed out anyway which doesn't matter to many people.

So if you have a PS3 its: Bluray for quality and Netflix streaming for convenience, and you won't need to pay a second subscription fee to do it.

I just got my disc. Watching a movie right now. The activation process was the same as the 360. You have to enter a code on Netflix's site to activate your "player". The queue seems to be a bit better than I remember from the 360. (Note: I haven't used the 360's streaming in a while. If I get around to it, I will plug my xbox back in to provide a current comparison.).

I am watching a SD movie. It took about 15 seconds to buffer and start. The quality is about the same as I remember from the 360 service. The video is heavily compressed, and the sound is flat. The library seems to have improved a bit, but it is still pretty bad.

I was surprised how fast the Netflix application loaded. I was worried since it was using java/BD Live. The movie thumbnails take a couple of seconds to load. I don't remember that from the 360 version, but it seems to be a trade off because you are no longer restricted to your queue.

The service does offer HD content, but there isn't a great selection. I read that it is the same on the 360, but can't verify. It's not bad, because there is no additional fee for me, but I will continue to watch my Blu-rays.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

I want it on the wii cause right now my bluray player is one of those instant netflix players but that only works in the usa and i m in canada so yeah i have this service like netflix but for canada its called zip and they mail it to u free shipping both ways it comes with a prepaid envelope.....so yeah its 12 dollars not bad..but i wish netflix gave supposrt in canada jezz they suck i fing hate them..i want it on the so that i can use it but i am afraid that if it does come on the wii, it still won't work it will probably have the same problem as my bluray player...

Until netflix does some type of agreement with microsoft for their tech, it will always be that way.  Until netflix either goes with another form of codec or give microsoft what they want to get it on those other consoles.

thats not the problem what the problem is that my bluray is a netflix instant player so u download netflix movies right off the bluray....here check this site out...http://www.netflix.com/NetflixReadyDevicesList?lnkce=nrd-l&trkid=425738&lnkctr=nrd-l-n

so the problem is that even though my bluray is instant netflix watch device, it doesn't work because i m in canada so it sucks..i have to bein the us to use this feature of my bluray...so what i meant was that even if the wii got it, it still wouldn't work probaly cause im in canada

As long as the quality is good and and smooth then I don't mind. It will be a lot more convenient with it.

To be honest I don't understand the obsessiveness over "HD".  I have a 57 inch 1080p setup, its wonderful and I do enjoy the HD content.  But I still love watching movies in lower quality too.  It doesn't ruin my experience at all.  And if you have a smaller tv under 45 inch  720p is enough anyway.

I don't mean HD qaulity, just not butchered or bad quality. Most of the movies I watch are on DVDs and the occassional VHS.

I got mine today. The interface and navigation is better on the X360 at least i'd say and the loading of the thumbnail is slow but other than that, it does what its supposed 2
