He runs the largest and most successful gaming shop...that's his street cred, how does that compare to his critics?

I see him as more of getting on a train that was on the right track (as the chief engineer), and now he's doing his best to derail it.  Unknowingly, of course.  I'm sure he thinks his approach is best.  He's not evil... just destined for a train wreck.

I like to poke fun at him because, frankly, the game industry would turn sour real fast if all execs thought like he does, and that bothers me... alot.

See...the problem is this... ActivisionBlizzard is succeeding where others are floundering badly.  Sure, you can attribute their success to whatever, but the simple facts are these...$$$.  They have the biggest game launch this year, and they will have the biggest PC launches next year.  People keep hating the guy, but his company is creating the products that gamers want, where his competitors are scraping by.

Erm $703 million revenue, 15 million profit...

remove World of Warcraft profits and Activision Blizzard would of lost over $250 million for q3 and would of been down over 40% YoY in revenue.

How could these morons afford to merge with my baby? Blizzard is so much better than this. How'd they waste 700 million in revenue? If they give me Diablo Hero, Call of StarCraft: Modern Broodwarfare, and a bunch of other crap, I will personally blow up the universe.

Haha, awesome post.

Seriously though, I can't see their future being too bright. The Wii revenue was being carried by Guitar Hero, and the franchise has declined fast due to their milking. The HD consoles (or if they last long enough, their successors) will follow, once people get tired of Call Of Duty.

They desperately need another hit IP on their hands.

Have you studied thru the 10-Qs to see the revenue/expense ratios?  What is the total 10-K looking like?  Cherry picking a quarter is probably not the best method to evaluate a company's financials.

Even with WoW, Activison-Blizzard's financial results haven't been good in past quarters, so I doubt this quarter is significantly worse.

Also, WoW should result in pretty stable revenue, so it's not like this quarter has any reason to be different for that part.

What are we comparing these results to?

Every time I see a company announce their financials we get threads like this and someone has to explain that increased revenue is only good if it translates into proportionate increases in profit. The HD model is broken because a company can release several games in a year which produce massive amounts of revenue, but a handful of games which sold to traditionally profitable levels lose so much money that they erase all profit from successful games.

For 4 years companies have struggled with this increasing revenue and increasing losses problem, and the management seems too inept to even realize that games with limited sales potential that will primarily be targeting undiscriminating audiences (Monsters vs. Aliens) really don’t need the advanced graphical effects from the HD console. At the same time, they really need to understand that there is a "Snobby" element to the Wii's userbase (as there is on the HD consoles) and they can't continue to crank out crap expecting these videogame "snobs" to pick it up just because they have limited options.

Well, this isn't really surprising.

I love how Kotick doesn't even mention MW: Reflex

Revenue this revenue that... It's the profit that is interesting.
