Forums - Gaming - If consoles go motion control standard next-gen, why are you going PC?

I'm asking this at the moment because of a few comments made in this thread, but I've also read it plenty of times in the past by many members here. For those of you resistant of motion control to the point that you'll leave console gaming for PC gaming, I ask why. Judging by the most dominant genres on the PC, it would seem PC gaming has very many of the same values as motion control. Here's some examples:

First Person and Third Person Shooters
Simulation
Real Time Strategy
Point and Click Adventure
Western RPGs

All of these are primarily controlled and/or manipulated using the mouse, which is far, far closer to the pointer control than it is the analog control of controllers. If you're that resistant to motion control, then why would controlling games with a mouse be far more enticing? It's fundamentaly the same thing.

Your theory is kinda backed up by the fact that a lot of prior PC only gamers have bought a Wii.

This should be an interesting thread... if it's just not avoided anyway.

They can rest their arms on the table while they move around. Forget the fact that they can't lay on the couch and relax which is the #1 reason motion controls suck.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

I doubt anyone would leave consoles for PC just because of motion controls. I think this way for a completely different reason. Console owners like hardware that's relevant for longer and they like the ease of sitting on a couch in front of a TV. Obviously several feel like the later is under attack but I highly doubt motion controls will be standard for all genres.

Pixel Art can be fun.

I might chance to PC... but I am undecided. I don't see the point in gesture based gameplay, it just seems like extra effort to swish instead of pushing a button

Motion Control will never become universal. Not until you can do everything with motion controls that you can with a standard controller.

As for people threatening to defect to PC gaming, you can still sit in a chair and play a PC game. You can even connect your PC to your TV, and use a gamepad while sitting on the couch. Which basically turns it into a console.

What nordlead said.
I'm playing games on my PC monitor and thus I'm sitting on a chair in front of it.
Furthermore I don't play games in short intervals and I don't see how I could play games with motion controls for a longer period of time.

Yeah, and you can even connect a 360 controller to it for games like sports games and some action games where the joypad is far better

I wont go PC, Im already a Wii + PC gamer, so if next gen goes motion what am I losing?

Yeah I played Bioshock, Gears of War and Crysis on my PC with a 360 controller. That was fun ^^
