Considering the Xbox 360 userbase is what 8-9x smaller that the wii and many of the releases for the 360 were new IP's (LO, ES, IU, LR, BD), I wouldn't go calling 500k a rousing success.

I don't think it has a chance of matching the DQS numbers in Japan. It'll probably settle at around 250-300k

Bets with Conegamer:
Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.
| trestres said: Oh well, looks like this game will bomb. That score is terrible for a FF game, even if it's a spin-off. No wonder, it's not SE's best effort and it's a fairly short game I've heard. I wonder if SE will give the Wii a top tier game before DQX. I don't think so. |
isnt it like 15 hours? thats not so short right?
Even then, though, the 250-300K isn't TOO terrible. It is low, yes, but it could be worse. I expect that the game will get more sales stateside (perhaps the reviewers will be more enthusiastic here).
Also, we don't really know if the game will be a hit or not. It depends on how the public responds to it. I don't expect to be a super-huge hit, but I think it'll be fairly successful. 300K isn't anything to scoff at in Japan.
I don't know what Square-Enix will have next for Wii after this before DQX, but hopefully the game will do respectable business for them to continue their support (or perhaps improve it a little).

I guess it depends what you were expecting. For an RPG I expect longer, but for an action/adventure game which I've heard this game is more like than an RPG it would be really good.
...
Initially, I came across as predicting doom for this title when I saw the score, but after I realized I was overreacting, I decided to delete my "trolling" posts. So now I'll say this:
The score isn't super-high, and it does cool my anticipation for the game somewhat. But it could've been much worse. 30/40 is by no means a bad score, but this is only the first review. We'll have to wait and see what other reviewers will say.
Anyway, I don't see this game being a particularly huge title, but it'll definitely acheive cult status and find an audience on all three sides of the globe.

I was expecting something along the lines of Zelda. Considering it's a Zelda like game, anything less than 30 hours is too short. Being generous, since Zelda games are 40-50 hour games.
I was disappointed when I heard about the length, even more when we know that FF games are really long games.

Wow, so can we please stop the crap where people say reviewers give Final Fantasy higher scores just because?
