Forums - Nintendo - Iwata Mentions NEX-GEN Hardware, MAY use HD Visuals!

It looks like Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata has managed to make a mention, in some capacity, about Nintendo's next generation console to follow Wii.

Inside Games posted its regular Morning Edition Check column today. This daily column summarizes game-related stories from morning financial papers.

One of the recaps is from today's Nikkei Industrial Daily, which has an article about last week's Nintendo earnings report. During the briefing, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata apparently touched upon the specifications of Nintendo's next generation console, indicating that the console would likely make use of HD visuals.

Yes, I'm aware this is all extremely vague. What you're reading here is a summary of a summary of what was probably a vaguely written article in the first place. If I manage to get my hands on the paper, I'll post a more detailed summary. Alternatively, it's possible that the Nikkei article sourced the Q&A section of the briefing, which Nintendo will likely post in full to its official site some time this week.

The Inside recap also mentions that Iwata promised to lend Nintendo's full backing to the overseas release of Dragon Quest IX. He did not share specifics, but this is something Nintendo has indicated in the past.

DQIX has already sold 4 million copies here in Japan, but the series has in the past been far less successful in overseas markets.

Seriously? Oh my God, I could swear it would be another 480i console, who whould have thought about HD?

@kowenicki

but with NATAL & SONY motion, don't you think this gen is aimed to last a lot longer

Darth, how many threads did you create today??
OT: Next Nintendo console will use HD visuals surely, I think that in less than a year we'll see and expansion/new version of the Wii, and that is likely to support HD visuals. I'm not saying this because of Patcher but I have my reasons to think that...

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

There is absolutely no way in hell the next Nintendo console will not have HD graphics.

Didn't we already hear this about a couple of weeks ago? Anyways I don't really see how this is news worthy. People are acting like Nintendo have never embraced technology in their history because they made one underpowered system.

Hey man.. it's Darth's job to stay on N4G for 24 hours a day and filter out all the stupid random blogs there so he can post it here..

And I'm thanking Darth for doing that for us.. it takes a lot of courage to go through all that N4G shit..

... and people don't consider that by moving up to HD resolutions required more powerful and more expensive hardware. When the Wii launched a "traditional" console would have been powerful enough to produce Wii-Quality graphical effects at HD resolutions, or PS3/XBox 360 quality graphical effects at SD, and this awkward positioning of conventional technology probably influenced Nintendo's hardware choice; in contrast, Sony and Microsoft produced remarkably expensive hardware (for a gaming console), sold it at record high prices while taking record losses.

Today, a $100 Graphics card produce better effects than the HD console at Higher resolutions with faster framerates; and soon enough 50% of households will have a HDTV. From this point forward there is really no reason not to support HD resolutions.

Sure it's going to have HD, but is it really that important though? seriously I'm using HD occasionally, it looks a little nicer, but the way some people react seems way overblown. It's so not worth it.
