Forums - Gaming Discussion - IYO, what are the worst things this gen has brought to the table?

Exclusive DLC. I don't even mean console exclusive, either. I mean store exclusive. There is no reason in hell why anybody should only get Stone Cold Steve Austin in WWE Smackdown vs. Raw if they pre-order from Gamestop. That's B.S., and it's happening more and more, as time progresses. I hate this.

Couldn't agree more.

Although I don't like any day 1 exclusive content.  I mean it's the developer saying "We had enough time to make this... yet you have to pay for it seperatly."

Can't help but feel that last gen it would of just been included free of charge.

Around the Network

Too many peripherals (Nintendo mainly, I only have Wii)

But I like motion controls, standing and moving around while playing a game is more fun than just sitting and moving your fingers. Because I already sit all fucking day. I just saw GoW 3 demo play, holy shit, just sit me the fuck down!

- The Hardcore/Casual BS
- Fully-priced

What's with the motion control hate? It can improve some game's controls. What's wrong with them

Tag:I'm not bias towards Nintendo. You just think that way (Admin note - it's "biased".  Not "bias")
(killeryoshis note - Who put that there ?)
Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

Biggest pikmin fan on VGchartz I won from a voting poll

Do Not Click here or else I will call on the eye of shinning justice on you.

Worst? Easy- a demand for graphics. They can make a great game even better, but when all they do is dress up a crappy game, then they don't do a damn thing for my enjoyment of it. And reviewers have eaten that up this gen- sell a game by its graphics. Put up a few pretty pics and a trailer, and watch suckers gobble it up.

Too much DLC. Gives devs an excuse to leave stuff out only to charge for it later.

The whole casual/hardcore thing and the "hardcore" (including the man-child gaming media) thinking the whole industry is going to fall apart if developers start making some games that aren't targeted at them.

The gaming media this gen, the vast majority have just become glorified advertisers.

Microtransactions- I don't think there is a gamer out there that isn't pissed about these. Especially ones that seem wildly over priced.

Game Installations/Patches- there is nothing more that I hate than installations. First time I tried to play Ratchet and Clank on PS3 I found out that I HAVE TO HAVE a certain amount of memory already on the hard drive just to install that one and start playing. Now that is just stupid. Second is patches. I don't care what people think or what developers say... if you can't make a great, polished game the first time then you didn't make a great game ever. Covering it up by fixing it later is a cop out. I'm glad they do it but we shouldn't look up at those developers but instead down.

Local Multiplayer Disappearing- seriously WHAT HAPPENED. Aside from really the Wii, local multiplayer is just disappearing. Of course all of use like competing with those online and playing with online friends... but hey we also have friends in real life that maybe want a quick game of Smash Bros or Halo. Yet some games just completely have thrown that out of the window. Not good.

More isn't Always Better- you get the feeling nowadays that everything needs an elaborate storyline, some form of multiplayer, etc. But let's face it not every game needs this. Not every run of the mill shooter needs to have their crappy story lines introduced and make us suffer through it and then move on to the uninspired multiplayer. If you aren't going to make them competent then don't include them at all.

Hardcore-Casual split: really this silly form of nationalism I find despicable and unwarranted. Anyone that plays video games is a gamer. I'll write an article on this eventually but people need to stop trying to form elitist groups and simply just find comfort in your general gaming community rather than splitting.

There are plenty more but that's a good start.

Yep this whole generation seems messed up. What will happen after this one, though. I'm not even want to think about.

Peoples need for everything to have a co-op or multiplayer mode, what happened to having a good single player you can experience by yourself???

Motion controls

DLC

Horrible hardware failures. When I spend this kind of money I should get a decent product that lasts.

I'll do a console by console one to go along with my general one:

PS3:

- Mandatory installs - Not so much a problem anymore but before it was in every flipping game

- Long Updates - The firmware updates seem to take forever, even the ones that seem absolutely useless

- Bad ports - Again, not so much a problem now. But in 06 and 07 this was a huge problem.

- $600 at launch

- No good games till late 2007 - Basically people had to go about a whole year before good games started rolling in

360

- Red Ring of death

- $60 for online

Wii

- Did they put any effort into online?

- Casual Games/Party Games - This is the 3rd parties fault, not Nintendo's

- Motion Controls

- No DVD/Blu-ray

- Excessive peripherals (Balance board, wii wheel, nunchucks, zapper, etc)

Actually, there IS DVD. Through Wii Homebrew.

I did not know that.
