Forums - Gaming Discussion - IYO, what are the worst things this gen has brought to the table?

Excessive reliance on online and multiplayer over single player. Very irritating.

Around the Network

- DLC

- Lack of JRPG's on home consoles

- Too much generic, boring, fucking rotten shooters.

- Excessive co-op/multiplayer focus

- Less console uniqueness (bar Wii)... PS3 and 360 are too similar. And similar to PC too.

The artifical Hardcore-Casual branding of players.

Big huge game budgets causing several studios to shut down.

More focus on graphics than new games.

COLLECTORS EDITIONS, seems like every game has them now!

DLC that is already on the disc or should have come with the game in the first place.

MS and Sony charging ridiculous prices for things like themes and clothes for a virtual person.

"GOTY" editions that come out even if a game isn't GOTY.

Mini game fests on Wii, it makes me cringe every time I see a game with "party" "family" or "sports" in the title with the exception of Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. Obviously intended to grab the attention of unsuspecting moms and dads

5 hour single player campaigns.

First person shooters as the average genre for a game.

Definitely DLC. Anyone who doesn't say DLC is just plain weird.

The only DLC that doesn't make me want to punch someone is the GTA4 Episodic DLC-stuff because it's actually a proper effort.

i dont see what the problem is with dlc, you dont have to get it >_>...its just adds to the package as does online and co-op...i love both

i would have to say RROD and YLOD, i mean consoles broke before but damn lol

Because it lowers the value of the game. This is all stuff that should be in the package to begin with. Like, extra costumes in Street Fighter IV - and you have to pay to get them. That's downright greedy. Almost all of the DLC seems to already be on the disc with pretty much every game released too, so there's really no excuse except that they want to get more cash without putting a price hike on the game. So instead of raising the price they lower the value and go "Oh, you want the entire game? Then give us more money".

It's ridiculous and if it stays around after this gen my interest in gaming may start to wear thin.

YLOD is certainly no worse than the PS2 disc read error

-The Casual/Hardcore mentality

-Patches "No need to finish a game, we'll patch it later."

-Excessive DLC

-The surge of peripheral based music games

-The surge of first person shooters

Pixel Art can be fun.

All this plus the over making of handheld models...
