Forums - Gaming Discussion - IYO, what are the worst things this gen has brought to the table?

The fact that consoles have now reverted to PCs 10 years ago.

Release it buggy, require installs, patch extensively to fix bugs, crashes, glitches, and slowdown now considered completely acceptable in big name games.

Around the Network

1-Excessive DLC

2-lack of jrpgs on home consoles

Yeah, I almost forgot casual gaming. Thanks for that, Nintendo. Luckily we still have a choice.

So it's RRoD (most unreliable hardware in the history of video games), DLC (that used to be free unlockable content in previous generations), and last but not least, pseudo games, aka "casual gaming".

"Well certainly with the Xbox 360, we had some challenges at the launch. Once we identified that we took control of it. We wanted to do it right by our customers. Our customers are very important to us." -Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb (10/2013). Note: RRoD was fixed with the Jasper-revision 3 years after the launch of 360

I like the idea of DLC and they have definitely made it more accessible. Maybe it's because I can't wait for DA:O =P

I think most of these changes are caused by higher production costs and the competition between purchasing new and old games. DLC potentially allows you to enjoy games you like for longer, instead of trading it in right away to get the next big game (which is something I did for a while)

Co-op and online just adds to replayability. And as the market expands the people who get into gaming are more interested in the social side of playing the game instead of the game instead of a single person story line.

Both of those are great for the industry.

For me the worst thing has been hype surrounding games.

There is DLC and there is DLC, the majority of it is rubbish and overpriced

fanboys now taking this personally (tell me if this happened in previous generations... I was an innocent kid that had nothing to do with console wars)
I always like to talk about games but now I cant because my parents prohibit me from buying m+ games and thats all they ever talk about.

p.s. If you say you like a rated E or T then prepare for insults...

Singleplayer mode suffer beacuse they focus way too much on multiplayer wich means the singleplayer mode are way to short for my taste.

If I want to play multiplayer games I'll do it on my computer.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

* ridiculous proportion of trash games (they always existed, but never this many) that actually sold well.

* Wii wiggles, how is wiggling any more "enjoyable" than pressing a button? If a game want to incorporate fun feature, do that... randomly wiggling instead of pressing a button =/= innovation

*expensive controllers

Exclusive DLC. I don't even mean console exclusive, either. I mean store exclusive. There is no reason in hell why anybody should only get Stone Cold Steve Austin in WWE Smackdown vs. Raw if they pre-order from Gamestop. That's B.S., and it's happening more and more, as time progresses. I hate this.

lack of split screen.
