Forums - Sales - PS3 Shipments = 4.3 MILLION, 13 Million TARGET possible? (or is it hard?)

@lazyrider

slims were out of stock on amazon, gamesptop & so on initially

Wasn't that in the US when the street date was broken? But you are correct that there were shortages at first then. Still, it must have been hard for Sony to know what demand was like and afetr the first week explosion, so a possibilty remains that Q2 shipments are bigger and that therefore they could eat of bit of Q3. That is all I am saying (but on the basis of no proof whatsoever I admit).

Well we know Nintendo revised their forecasts but Sony, as far as I know, did no such thing. There the best equipped to make these predictions and they are sticking to it. This leads me to believe that there is indeed a strong chance Sony will pull it off.

However... I'm curious as to whether they overshipped the Slim in September which would then impede on their Q3 (holiday) shipments. I never heard of Slim's out of stock and Sony sold a whole bunch at first (and still selling well today). This is my only reservation on the shipping numbers increasing drastically this holdiay (though the Slim will certainly sell a lot more to the consumer this holiday).

Remembering that these numbers are shipped -- not sold to consumers. So some "holiday sales" may already be "pre-counted."  Also, I wonder how many people who would have bought during the holidays went and purchased a slim with the price drop.

Finally, the software may not be coming out in the fiscal year sufficient to move consoles. GT5 will have less than one month in this fiscal year in Japan -- and no more than that (if that) in the rest of the world. FF will have a full quarter to sell in Japan. But unless everyone in Japan who buys FF games (3M for FF X, 2.5M for X-2 and XII) buys a PS3, then the hardware sales are not going to skyrocket.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

I think 6m then 2m, so 12m total... so only a little under

13 million is a 43% boost from last year's shipments... I suppose it's possible if they do a huge shipment in March, but I'd bet more on 10.5-12 million.

No it wouldn't.

at this point it's realistic to assume that they will reach their 13 million target and probably even a bit more than that

good point.. but it didn't happen with X360when they dropped the price last yr, why u think it will effect PS3? moreover PS2 install base is much larger than XBOX install base.. so Sony has more customers to offer PS3  to upgrade from PS2 or if they have gone to X360 than if there X360 RROD than they can give PS3 another chance... so it make me believe that PS3 will sell a lot more than the numbers XBOX achieved last yr.

yh they will do it.
